How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Cadillac CTS

Today on this 2007 Cadillac CTS, we're going to install part number 60830, from Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like once it's installed on our Cadillac, next we'll give you some measurements, then help out selecting some accessories. Such as the bicycle rack, or our cargo carrier. From top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 10", and from the center of the hitch pinhole to outside edge of your bumper is going to be about 6 3/4". Now, we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. To start off to install, we need to get inside the trunk area, we need to remove the floor coverings to get down to the bare metal by your spare tire. Take off the spare tire cover first, and then we can go ahead and remove the threshold.

Now, there are 4 tie down points on the threshold that we have to simply unscrew to remove the threshold. Next, we'll go ahead and take the carpet, roll it forward and push up out of the way, so we can have access to the bare metal. Now, we need to get underneath the car, and we'll go ahead and lower the exhaust to give us some more working room. This is a dual exhaust model, so there's going to be 3 exhaust hangers on tail that we're going to lower. 1 behind the muffler and then 2 by the tailpipe. We'll spray it down with some lubricant, and then we'll pry them off and lower them out of the way.

We'll also use a strap to help hold our exhaust up while we do this, and then we're going to lower it using the strap. Now with next set of hands, we'll go ahead and lift the hitch up in position, and then we're going to hold it there and some marks for holes we need to drill. It's also good to use a floor jack or some device to help hold it up while we make our marks. What we're going to do using spray paint to mark our holes. Then we'll go ahead and lower it out of the way .. and then using the extra long 1/4" drill bit, we'll go ahead and drill our pilot 00:02:07 holes.

Then we'll get inside the trunk and then drill out our final holes size. Now final hole size will be 1/2". With our holes drilled, we're almost ready to install the hitch. We'll go ahead and show you how the hardware works the hitch first before we install it. We'll have our plate that goes on the inside of a trunk pan, now you notice 2 holes are offset on the plate, the longer end will always face towards the front of the vehicle. Then our carriage will also go through the center, then it will go through a trunk pan, and then through the hitch.

Then underneath the hitch we'll get a lock washer and a nut, this will be the same thing on the passenger side. Our next step is to go ahead and apply some sealant through the holes. Then we will install our hardware. Also it's a good idea to put some weight on top of the plates and bolts to help hold it in there while we install the hitch. With the next to set of hands one more time, we'll go ahead and push the hitch back up into position, and then we can install our hardware. A lock washer and nut. Once we have all of our hardware installed, we'll go ahead and tighten it down, and then to work the bolts down as best by instructions. Then we can go ahead and re-install the exhaust. Then take out our weight out of the inside of the trunk, and go ahead and re-install the floor coverings. With that, that'll finish it for our install part number, 60830 on a 2007 Cadillac CTS. .
