Today on this 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan we're going to install part number 75305 from Draw-Tite. This is what the hitch looks like once it's installed on the vehicle. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 12 1/4 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about 2 3/4 inches. Now we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.
First thing we're going to do is get underneath the vehicle and we'll go ahead and show you the attachment points. You'll use two bolts behind the spring shackle, right behind the bumper, and the next bolt going towards the front above the spring. Now behind the spring shackle there will be three bolts. We'll only remove the two on the outside and leave the one in the center there. We'll also remove the bolt going towards the front.
Now we'll save the hardware because they'll be reused to install the hitch. Now we'll go ahead and show you how the hardware will fit with the hitch. Above the springs you'll see the block and the original bolt. The hardware behind the bumper we'll show you how that fits as well. We'll use the two outside holes and you can see how the hitch has an opening for the center bolt.
At this point we'll go ahead and lift the hitch up and put it in position. Now you definitely want to have an extra set of hands to help hold it up and work it over the release spring. We'll point the hitch towards the axle first. We'll put the edge of the hitch over the spring and then we'll pull it up to the bumper on one side then we'll repeat the same process on the other side. Now we'll go ahead and install the hardware above the spring.
We'll have our bolt and our block we'll pull it through the hitch and we'll go ahead and get it installed into the existing weld nut. Once we get both sides loosely fastened we'll go ahead and push the hitch up against the frame and then we'll go ahead and install the hardware behind the bumper. Our hardware wind up pretty good on our drivers side however on the passenger side it was pulled to one side. We're going to use a pry bar we'll put between the edge of the hitch and the frame and you can see how we can push it over a little bit to have room to install our bolts. With all our hardware installed we'll go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torqued them down as specified int eh instructions. With that that will finish it for our install of part number 75305 from Draw-Tite on our 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan.
