Today on our 2005 Ford F-150, we will be installing the Curt Hitch, part number C13352. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next we will go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is three inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 16-3/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
Now let us go ahead with the installation. First we will note that we have already gone ahead and lowered or removed our spare tire for the ease of installation of the hitch. Next we can point out our first two attachment points. These will be the chain loops just below the bumper. The hardware for these attachment points will be the 5/8 inch bolts along with the 5/8 inch flat washer and flange nut. It is a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you put it into position and install these fasteners.
Now with the hitch up and in position, we will go ahead and tighten them down to secure it. Now with the hitch in position, we will use the hitch as a template to drill out the six frame attachment points. There will be three on each side. To drill out the holes, we will first take our half-inch bit and use it to create a center point of each hole. Then we will take a smaller pilot bit and run through the hole using the set bit process step up to the half-inch bit.
Now that we have all three holes drilled out on the drivers side, we can go ahead and begin installing the hardware. The hardware for each of these attachment points will be a half-inch carriage bolt and block along with a half-inch flange nut. We use a half-inch pull wire provided with the install kit to pull our hardware into position in the frame. We take the pull wire and go through the attachment point and out the access hole, then slide on our block and thread on the carriage bolt. Then we can feed the block and bolt into the frame and pull them into position.
Then we will go ahead and remove the bolt leader, or pull wire, and install the flange nut. Now with the hardware in place for our forward attachment points, we will go ahead and repeat the same process for the center and rear attachment points. Now with the drivers side done, we will go ahead and repeat the same process on the passengers side. Now with all the hardware in place, we will go ahead and tighten it down. Next we will torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. With all of our hardware tightened down and torqued to specifications, that will conclude the install of our Curt Hitch part number C13352 on our 2005 Ford F-150.
