Today on this 2005 Cadillac SRX were going to install part number C13050 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 14 inches, and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is only going to be about a half inch. Now well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. To get started we need to have the spare tire lowered and out of the way.
Next were going to disconnect the rubber exhaust hanger brackets. There will be three on each side. Well spray them down with some lubricant and then pry them off. Next well go ahead and remove the three nuts and the retaining clip from each of the rear most exhaust hanger brackets. There is a lower stud on each side.
Well have to cut those down as close as possible to the vehicle. The two upper studs will remain in place. Now we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust hanger brackets using the remaining hardware. Next well go ahead and trim the heat shield as described in the instructions. There will be a pretty good chunk taken out of it, almost approximately about half.
As we get done cutting the heat shields, well take the edges and bend them up a little bit out of the way to kind of get rid of the sharp edges. The hitch will use three threaded holes on the frame located on each side. Well spray down the threads with some lubricant first, and then use a tube brush to help clean them out. That will be part number 814092. Then well go ahead and run one of the hitch pulls in to make sure its cleaned out.
We have our threads done on this one bolt, well repeat the same process to the remaining five bolts. With all the threads cleaned out we can go ahead and install the hitch. You definitely want an extra set of hands to help hold up the hitch when we install the hardware, and well install the bolts and the conical tooth washers. Well make sure the teeth on the conical tooth washers are facing toward the hitch. Once all the hardware is installed, then well go ahead and tighten the bolts down, and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. Then we can go back to reinstalling the exhaust and the spare tire. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number C13050 from Curt on our 2005 Cadillac SRX.
