How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Today on this 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix were going to install part number 24660 from Draw Tite. Now well give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of your hitch pin opening to the back of the bumper is going to be six and a half inches, and from the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 11 inches. Now Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. The first step is to go ahead and get into the trunk area where were going to remove the carpeting and the spare tire so we can get down to the spare tire well itself. In the spare tire well youll see two round grommets.

Were going to remove those and install hardware. Were going to install a block and two carriage bolts. Well also put a little bit of silicone sealant around the holes to help seal it up. Next well go underneath the vehicle and fish wire some hardware into the existing holes. Some vehicles have the bumper beds fully enclosed so you have to push it out to the side.

Our bumper is the enclosed type, so were going to have to take our fish wire and put it in the hole were going to use and out the side of the bumper. Were also going to add a length of wire to it to make it a little easier to work with. Then well run our wire through. The hardware well be using will be the three-eighths blocks and carriage bolts. With all the hardware installed we can go ahead and lift the hitch up into position.

Well work with the three-eighths carriage bolts first, then well install the conical tooth washer and the nut, and when we install eh conical tooth washer we want to make sure the teeth are pointing toward the hitch. Then well go ahead and move onto the half inch hardware toward the front. That will use a half inch nut and lock washer. With the hardware installed we can go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. With all the bolts torqued down all we have to do is reinstall the spare tire and the coverings on the inside of the trunk.

With that, that will finish it for our install of part number 24660 from Draw Tite on our 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.
