How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2003 GMC Sierra

Today in our 2003 GMC Sierra well be installing the Curt hitch, part number 13322. Here is what our hitch will look like once installed.Next were going to give a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole, to the outermost edge, to the bumper is 2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 17 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rake or cargo carrier. Now well ahead with the installation. To begin our install well first quick point out the attachment points.

For this hitch well have a total of six attachment points three on each side. Keep in mind each process we do on one side we get to repeat identically on the opposite side. Starting here at our rear frame attachment point will be our manufacturers bolt. Well be removing this bolt and setting it aside as it will not be reused. Next we need to clean out the weld nuts. To do this we use a half-inch nylon toothbrush, part number 814092 and some spray lubricant.

Well spray the threads and then thoroughly clean them. Then well take one of the new fasteners from our install kit and thread it into the weld nut to make sure they go nice and smoothly. Now with both weld nuts cleaned out were ready to go ahead and install the hitch. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands that will help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. Well put the new 14mm bolt into both weld nuts along with a half inch conical tooth washer. The teeth to the washer will face the hitch.Once we have both of the weld nut fasteners in place well go ahead and install our half inch carriage bolt and block going down through the frame and then to the hitch and securing it with a half inch flange nut. Now with all the hardware in place were going to tighten it down.

Next well torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured torque to specifications were ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of our Curt hitch, part number 13322 on our 2003 GMC Sierra. .
