How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2003 Ford Focus Wagon

Today on our 2003 Ford Focus Wagon well be installing Hidden Hitch, part number 60905. Heres what your hitch would look like on the vehicle. Now well go ahead and give you a few measurements to help you when selecting accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most part of the bumper is 7 1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 13 inches. Now to begin our installation well need to lower our exhaust.

To do this well spray the insulator here at the back of the muffler with a spray lubricant. Well then use our exhaust hanger removal tool to remove the insulator from the hanger. You can also use a pry bar if you dont have the tool. With our exhaust lowered well now go ahead and point out our attachment points. Were now ready to install our hardware.

Well be using our spacer with the square hole in the middle and our carriage bolt. Well also be using a half inch pull wire, part number 80101-1. Well feed our bolt leader through the attachment hole and out the access hole here. We can then slide our spacer block on and thread the carriage bolt into the bolt leader. Well then use the bolt leader to pull the carriage bolt through with the spacer block and out the mounting bolt hole.

We can then unscrew the pull wire and repeat the same process on the drivers side. Well now go ahead and raise the hitch into position. With our hitch in place well go ahead and use the conical tooth washer and our nut to thread onto the bolts that we installed with the pull wire making sure that the teeth of the washer are facing the hitch. With the hardware in place well go ahead and install the rear fasteners. On the rear fasteners well be using the square spacer block with the round hole in the center of it, the carriage bolt, the lock washer and the nut.

Well feed the carriage bolt through the hitch first as youll notice the hitch has a square hole to hold the carriage bolt. With our bolt in we can then install the spacer block, then the lock washer, and finally the nut. Now that all our hardwares in place we can go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now that all our hardwares torque to specifications we can then reinstall our exhaust which will complete our installation of Hidden Hitch, part number 60905, on our 2003 Ford Focus Wagon.
