Today on a 2002 Ford F-15, were going to install part number 87183 for Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like once installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements to help you out selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From top of the receiver opening down to the ground, will be 18 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be one and five eighths inches. Now well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.
First think we do is, go ahead and identify the holes in the frame that the hitch will mount up to. There are three holes on each side. Two close to the bumper and one farther up. Now Ill go ahead and show you the hardware that will go into the attaching points. We have the block, the carriage bolt, the conical to the washer and nut.
Well go ahead and run together to see how they fit together before we put them into the frame. When you install a conical to the washer, well make sure that the teeth are always facing towards the hitch. Lets go ahead and install all of the hardware into the existing holes in the frame. Were done with the passenger side and this will be identical on the driver side. With all of the hardware in the frame, well go ahead with an extra set of hands and lift up the hitch into position and then well go ahead and install the conical to the washers and nuts.
With everything loosely installed, well go ahead and tighten down the bolts and then torque them down as best by the instructions. With those few steps our hitch is already installed. One thing you want to note that the wiring on the driver side may be repositioned to install the hitch. Also it may be necessary to loosen up the spare tire if you dont have any room to install the hardware into the frame.
