How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 1999 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

Today on this 1999 Chevrolet CK Series pickup, we're going to install part number 41528. Now this is what the hitch looks like once it's installed on the truck. Next, we go ahead and give you some measurements to help you in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about 4-1/2". From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 19-1/4". Now I'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.

First off, we'll go ahead and locate where the hitch mounts up on the frame. There will be three existing holes. There will be one threaded hole that's closest to the bumper, and then another hole behind it, and one further up, this large round hole. Next, we'll go ahead and remove the bolt at the very end of the frame, because that's one of the attachment points for the hitch. And then we can go ahead and start installing hardware inside the frame.

We're going to start with the hardware for the hole in the middle. We're going to use our spacer block and our carriage bolt. Now our block we're going to use for our center attachment is going to be the one with the offset hole in the middle. We'll go ahead and put it into the frame on both sides, and then we'll go ahead and lift the hitch up into position. Now you definitely want an extra set of hands to help hold the hitch up while I push the hitch up to the frame and run the bolt through the hitch.

Then on the bottom side, we'll install a conical-tooth washer and nut. When you install the conical-tooth washer, you want to make sure that the teeth are facing towards the hitch. Now I'll loosely install this hardware on both sides. Now we'll go up to the threaded hole towards the bumper and install new hardware. We'll have a new bolt with a conical-tooth washer.

We'll thread that in and get it started. Once again, we'll do this on both sides. All right, now we'll go ahead and install the fasteners going towards the front of the vehicle. We'll install the carriage bolt and the block. This block will be the one with the hold in the center of it. This bolt and block will actually go through the frame, through another block, through the hitch, and then we'll install a flat washer, a lock washer, and a nut. Okay, with all our hardware loosely installed, we can go ahead and tighten down all the bolts, and then we'll torque them down as specified in the instructions. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number 41528 from Draw-Tite on our 1999 Chevrolet CK Series pickup.
