How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 1994 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup

Today on our 1994 Chevrolet Silverado we'll be installing Hidden Hitch, part number 87184. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 3". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 19-3/4". Now we'll go ahead and with the installation. We'll have a total of six attachment points for our hitch, three on each side. Keep in mind, each process we do on one side will get repeated identically on the opposite side.

Now to begin our install we'll first locate the manufacturer's 14mm bolts at the end of the frame rail on the bottom. We'll go ahead and remove these bolts, one on each side, and discard as we will use the new fasteners supplied with our install kit to secure the hitch. Now we're ready to put our hitch into position. You may need an extra set of hands to help you lift the hitch in place while we install the hardware. Forward attachment point will be a 1/2" carriage bolt and block. It's going to go down through the frame in the pre-drilled hole, then through the hitch.

However, in between the hitch and the frame we're going to install a spacer block, lining it up with the attachment point so our carriage bolt will go through the frame, through the spacer block, then through the hitch. To secure the fastener we'll then use a flat washer, split lock washer, and nut. For the center or middle attachment point we'll be using the 1/2" carriage bolt and block on the top of the frame going down through the frame, then through the hitch. Then we'll install a conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch.

Then a 1/2" nut. Now with all of our hardware installed finger tight we'll go ahead and tighten it down. Now with all the fasteners tightened down we'll go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. With our hitch secured and torqued to specifications, that will complete our install of Hidden Hitch, part number 87184, on our 1994 Chevy Silverado. .
