Review of the Thule Vertex 4 Hitch Bike Rack on a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee

All right on this 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee we are going to test fit part number TH9029, the Vertex Bike carrier. A few things to know about this bike carrier is that it will work with inch and a quarter receiver, both class one and class two. Now when you use this rack with a class one-receiver hitch you are limited to carrying just two bike. This will also work a two-inch receiver hitch with the included spacer and thats what we will be working with today. Well start off our test fit by installing the bike rack into the hitch, then well go ahead and tightened down the anti-rattle bolt. All right with the bolt tight we can ahead and get a couple of clearance measurements.

At the closed point from the bike rack to the bumper, we are looking at a distance of five inches. Ground clearance is going to be 15-1/4 inches. All right now well go ahead and tilt the bike rack back and check for access to the back of the jeep. All right, that looks good. Now we can go ahead and load up a bike.

First, what we are going to do is unfold the arms and then well loosen up the straps for the cradles that we are going to use. Well also point the anti-sway cradles towards the center or remove them. Now we can load up our bike. Well balance it out and then reinstall the anti-sway part of the cradle and strap it to the seat tube of the bike. With that done we can run the other straps over the top tube of the bike.

And those are only the few steps that are needed to load up the bike. With that that well finish it for our test fit of part number TH9029, the Thule Vertex bike carrier on our 2009, Jeep Grand Cherokee.
