How to Install a Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack on a 2019 Nissan Armada

Colin: Hey guys. Colin here at etrailer. Today we have a 2019 Nissan Armada and we're going to be doing a test fit of the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack system. This roof rack system is going to mount to the raised side rails of your Armada. It allows you to get your favorite accessories on top of your roof. Whether you got a kayak carrier, a cargo box, or even a bike rack, you're going to be able to get those things up there and them loaded. This roof rack's going to have 60" long wing bar crossbars.

Those are going to be available in black like we have right now, and also in silver. You can see etrailer if that's something you're interested in. They're going to have a nice aerodynamic shape to them, which is going to help cut down on wind noise and drag when compared to your standard square or round bar roof rack systems. We are going to also have a rubber strip up top. We can just flip open this cap and access that channel. Now if we want to use T-slot accessories, we don't have to pull off the strip and then cut it to length.

We can just insert it into the track and then tighten it down where we need it on our roof. Now we have our Evo raised rail feet connecting our wing bars to our raised side rails. These are going to have nice rubber padding on the inside where it's clamping onto your side rail. It's going to help make sure that it doesn't cause any type of damage to it. If we pull off the end cap, we can see the tightening bolt right here. Once we tighten that down, it's basically just going to clamp onto your raised side rails.

We also have a plastic lock right here, which we can replace with actual Thule lock cores available here at etrailer. That'll just provide more security for your roof rack. Now let's provide you guys with a few measurements. First from the top of our roof to the bottom of our wing bar, it's going to be 2 1/2". That's going to be plenty of space to be able to get your roof rack accessories under the cross bar and clamp them down without risking damaging the roof of your vehicle. Now if we go from the top of our roof to the top of rolling bar, it's going to be 3 3/4", which is something you want to keep in mind for any low clearance situations, that you have added that height to your roof. Our wing bar setup is going to have a weight capacity of 220 pounds.

That is going to be a step up from their previous Aeroblade bars, so you're going to be able to safely get yourself loaded without worrying about that capacity. But be sure to double check with your Armada's owner's manual and make sure that your roof can handle that weight. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's show you guys how to get it installed. It's going to be a very easy assembly and install. It's going to be the exact same steps as our front cross bar. All we're going to do is footfall for our cross bar. Need to take the end cap off. Just push in on that tab and just pull it out. Might need to wiggle it around a bit to get it off. There we go. Now we have our raised rail foot, the tabs right there, going to slide into the channel just like that. Make sure it's in there. It's going to say loose. Put the end cap back on. Now we're ready to get it on our roof. Now because the Armada does sit a bit higher than most vehicles, if you do have a high restriction . I'm just going to go ahead and open up that door so I can climb up there and see where I'm putting my crossbars. Just get it over the side rail. Doesn't have to be in the exact spot because right now we're going to grab our tape measure and measure our crossbar spread. Now to get our crossbar spread, we're going to go from the front of our front wing bar to the front of our rear wing bar. There's no set measurement that it has to be. You just want to make sure it's at least 24". You can base it off of whatever accessory you might be hauling that day. Just get a nice round number and then make sure the other side's the same. Now before you tighten anything down, you do want to measure your crossbar overhang and make sure that's even on both sides as well. We've already measured the other side and we get the same measurement on this side. You can start with your hands and just tighten down the bolt as far as you can get it. Once there's too much tension to where you can't use your fingers anymore, there is an included tool right here. We'll just keep tightening it down, and the tool is actually going to let you know when it's tight enough. And you see it's getting tighter. Once you hear that click, that's going to let you know that the roof rack is torqued down to the correct specifications. Now just go down and tighten down the other side.Once you've got both sides tightened down, go ahead and install your end caps. Now from there you do want to give your roof rack a quick shake. Make sure that it's going to be tight and secure for the trip. Now from there, you're ready to load up your favorite Thule accessories and then hit the road.Thank you all for watching. That's going to do for our look at the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack system on our 2019 Nissan Armada.
