How to Install the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars on a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, we're gonna be doing a test fit on the Thule Wing Bar Evo roof rack system. Now, this is specifically designed to fit your raised rails on your Equinox. I've got it in place here just to give you a good idea what it looks like. With this system, you're gonna be able to carry roof mounted accessories; things like bike racks, kayak carriers, cargo boxes, and more. Now, it features 47 inch long wing bars. You can see here how they span across the entire roof. That way, maybe we can carry not one bike rack, but maybe two or three bike racks, or two kayaks.

They are made out of aluminum, so we don't need to worry about rust and corrosion. I've got the black installed, but they're also available in silver. So, if that's something you're interested in, see etralier.com. Now, you'll notice that they're aerodynamic. These are gonna be a lot quieter than your traditional round or square bars.

They're gonna work with your standard clamp-on accessories, as well as your T sawed accessories. You can see how we pivot that end cap to the side there, and we don't want to remove or trim that rubber strip. That T bolt's just gonna slide right down the center and give me a nice clean look. Four Evo feet keep our crossbars in place. You can see here that they feature some rubber coating. That way they don't harm or scratch that finish, should we wanna take the system off one day.

Now, underneath our cover here, we've got our tightening bolt. The cover's gonna protect anybody from seeing this. It's gonna deter that theft, and it's also going to help the elements from getting inside. We can put on our cover. We can either use a flat head screwdriver or a penny to lock that up.

Now, if you'd like to increase security, you can punch out that plastic lock core and upgrade it to a metal locking core. That way, no one can remove the roof rack system from your raised rails. Now, this roof rack system has a weight capacity of 220 pounds. That's a step up compared to some of the other systems out there. This is gonna be able to carry a lot more weight. You do, however, wanna check with your Equinox's owners manual to see if the roof can support that much weight. Now I'm gonna give you some clearance measurements. This'll give you an idea of how much you've added to the roof of your Equinox, and it may help you when using those clamp on accessories. From the top of the roof to the inner side of the bar is about 3 1/2 inches. From the top of the roof to the top of the bar is about 4 3/4 of an inch. Now that we've done all of the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it set up. I've already got my front crossbar installed on my Equinox. You can see here how it's mounted to those raised rails. The rear one installs the exact same way. Let's go ahead and do it together. So, I've got half of it set up here on my white table. See, I've got one side installed. We just need to install the other Evo foot on the other side. The best way to do this is to turn that wing bar over. We'll need to remove the end cap. So, we can just press in on the tab and pull it out. What we wanna do here is we wanna slide all of this into the channel here. So, we'll turn it upside-down, and we'll push it on. Now, we don't need to worry about setting it up to a correct measurement or position on the underside of our bar, so we can actually push this scale all the way in for now, and we'll adjust our bar over hang once we get it in place on our Equinox. Go ahead and replace that end cap. That way it doesn't slide off, and we're ready to set it in place. It's that simple. Now, when we set it in place, we can set it anywhere we want, but we wanna set it up to where it's gonna work best with our accessories. I'm looking for the maximum crossbar spread, so I'm gonna mount my front one all the way forward and my rear one all the way backward. We wanna be sure that larger rounded portion of ours facing forward. That's the front. And, we'll gently rest it down on those raised rails. Now, if it doesn't seat all the way down, you'll just need to loosen up this large nut here, and that'll open up the clamp. Now, we wanna be sure we have the same crossbar spread on each side, so I'm gonna go ahead and grab a tape measure and measure that on each side. So with this, I'm just gonna make it simple. Measure center on center and make sure it's the same on each side. Now, once we've got it where we want it, we can start tightening it up. Now, you can either use the tool for this, or you can use your fingers, Just start to hand tighten it. And, we want to start that clamp on grabbing that raised rail, so I'm gonna apply a little bit of pressure on top. That way it squeezes out the seal on both sides as I'm tightening. We don't wanna tighten it up all the way just yet, 'cause we want to adjust that bar overhang. Okay, and we'll do the same thing for the other side. We just wanna be sure we have the same distance from the inside of the foot here to the outside of the bar. So, you can use a tape measure for this, or you can just eye it up. Since we left it loose, you should just be able to slide that bar on top. Push it a little bit more to the other side. Whoop. Too much. And then, I think we'll be set. That looks pretty good. Now we're free to tighten it down the rest of the way. Once we start feeling some resistance and we think we've almost got it, we wanna listen for an audible click in our tool. That's gonna let us know when it's properly torqued down, as you heard.Once everything's tightened down, we can go ahead and put on our cover. And, we're free to load up our favorite roof mounted accessories and hit the road. But, that's gonna complete our test fit of the Thule Wing Bar Evo roof rack system on our 2015 Chevrolet Equinox.
