Today were working with a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe, and were going to be test fitting the Thule Doubletrack hitch mounted bike carrier, part number TH990XT. To mount the carrier to our vehicle well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch, making sure we line up the hitch pin holes. Then well thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. Next well go over a few clearance measurements. Weve got about 10 inches of ground clearance from the bottom of the bike rack to the ground. Weve got about two inches of clearance from the closest part of the vehicle to the closest part of the bike rack.
Overall weve added about nine inches of length to the rear of our vehicle. Now we want to check to see if well have rear vehicle access even with the bike rack installed. Well grab the switch at the base of the bike rack and fold the platform down flat. Well open the cargo door and make sure it opens all the way and we can access the area. Next well go over one more clearance measurement.
With the bike rack folded down flat, weve added about 28 inches to the rear of our vehicle. Now were ready to load up a bike. Well take the upright mast and put it in its upright position, making sure that the ratcheting arms are all the way out. We also want to make sure that the wheel straps on each of the cradle closest to the vehicle are undone. Well pick up our bike and set it into the cradles.
Well secure it first by the frame using the ratcheting hook, then well go back and secure the wheels with the straps. With that done, our bikes all loaded up and were ready to hit the road. Thats it for our test fit of the Thule Doubletrack, part number TH990XT on our 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe.
