Review of the Thule Apex 4 Swing Hitch Bike Rack on a 2013 Ford Escape

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Thule Apex Swing Four Bike Carrier, part number th9027. Well begin by sliding the bike rack shank into the hitch and allowing the integrated locking hitch pin to fall into the hitch pin hole. We can then move to the anti-rattle knob where well tighten the knob down securing our bike rack to the vehicle. Well now go ahead and give you a few measurements, our ground clearance measures 11-1/2 inches and from the closest point of the bike rack here at the anti-rattle knob to the back of the vehicle measures one and half inches. Well now go ahead and pull the hitch switch at the top of the mask and bring out our dual arms where well undo the straps to expose our cradles. Well place the bike into the cradles and bring the straps around securing the bike to the bike rack.

Now the advantage to the Apex Swing is it does have the ability whether a bike is loaded or not to swing out towards the passenger side of the vehicle completely out of the way of the cargo area. Well undo the knob here at the back of the mask where we can then pull the T-handle and begin swinging the bike rack out. Well then need to pull the T-handle here at the hinge where we can then continue moving the bike rack toward the passenger side. Now with our bike rack on the passenger side of the vehicle we can go ahead and open our cargo door and as you can see we can gain access to the cargo area with this bike rack secured to the vehicle and out of our way. That completes our test fit of the Thule Apex Swing Four Bike Carrier, part number th9027 on our 2013 Ford Escape..
