Review of the Thule Apex 4 Hitch Bike Rack on a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today were working with the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe, and were going to be test fitting the Thule Apex Four hitch mounted bike carrier. To mount our carrier to the vehicle well make sure that we pull over the automatic hitch pin, slide the shank into the receiver tube and let the hitch pin secure on its own. Then well tighten down the bike using the hand knob at the base to activate the anti-rattle device. Next we want to check for rear vehicle access. Well grab the switch at the base of the bike rack and tilt it down. We want to make sure that we can open the cargo door all the way and access our cargo area, even with the rack installed.

Now well put the bike rack back up and go over some clearance measurements. Weve got about 12 inches of clearance from the bottom of the bike rack to the ground. Weve got about two inches of clearance between the closets part of the bike carrier and the vehicle. Overall weve added about 13 inches of length to the rear of our vehicle. Next were ready to load our bike.

Well grab the switch at the top of the bike rack so we can fold the arms out. Well make sure that the rubber straps at the cradles closest to the vehicle are undone. Well pick up our bike, fit it over the arms of the carrier and set it down into the cradles. Well secure the frame of the bike using the rubber straps. With that done, were all loaded up and ready to hit the road.

Thats it for our test fit of the Thule Apex Four hitch mounted bike carrier, part number TH9025 on our 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. .
