How to Install a Taylor Made Boat Hatch Marine Gas Struts

Shane: Hey everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com.Today I have a 2007 Fleetwood Bounder motor home, and I'm going to show you how to install the tailor-made gas strut. These struts are going to be designed for your basement doors. Maybe you have a boat with a flip up lid. These are great replacements for any of those that are wore out. It's going to make it a lot easier when you're lifting those things up.

You don't have to worry about them falling down on your head. You don't have to worry about holding them up or getting a stick or anything like that. They're going to come in a lot of different pounds and a lot of different links. They're also going to come in different styles. This is going to be a ball and socket. It's going to attach to a 10 millimeter ball.

They have some that have an open end arm that a pin will go through. So whatever your application is, whether it's on a window, on a door like this, on your boat, just make sure you check your shock. It should be listed on the side, what pounds you're going to need and pick up the proper one.I'm going to go ahead and open this door here and show you why we're replacing this one. So we open it up and you can see that the shocks not holding the door up anymore. So if we're getting there trying to hook up our water or whatever it is, when we get to where we're going, this thing is going to come down and hit you in the head.

You're going to have to prop it up. Anything like that becomes a pain in the butt.So these things are really simple to put on. They just have a clip at each end. You just slide it on the ball and pop it in place.First, we're going to remove our old one. Each end is going to have a little clip.

Take a small screwdriver, and you can see a little notch. We're going to pop that clip out and we're just going to slide it off the ball like that. It'll have one at both ends. And then to install our new one, simply take it, pop it in place just like that and it holds up our door. As you can see, it's going to make it a lot better when we're trying to get in there to get our camper set up, get it hooked up, whatever we need to do. We're not going to have to hold up our door. Have to worry about it coming down, hitting us in the head. That's going to do it for look at and installation on the tailor made gas struts on a 2007 Fleetwood Bounder motor home.
