How to Install the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate on a 2016 Ford F-150

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCab, we're going to be installing the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series Fifth Wheel Louvered Tailgate with Lock, part number VG-15-4000.This fifth wheel tailgate replaces your factory tailgate so you don't have to lower it or remove it when making your fifth wheel or gooseneck connection. The cutout design is going to protect your tailgate from getting damaged. It's also going to give you more visibility when backing up. The louver design is not only stylish, but it's going to reduce drag, and it may improve your fuel economy. Here at the center, it features a lock and two keys so it cannot be removed. If you're just loading up cargo, it easily lowers and sits flush with your truck bed.

Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed.First thing we need to do is remove our factory tailgate. If you have a backup camera installed, you'll need to disconnect that as well. On your F-150, it's located right here. You can see the wire coming from the tailgate and we need to disconnect it. So, we're just going to press in on the tab and then pull it apart just like that.

Now, it's not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands to remove your tailgate. So, we'll first drop it down. We're going to be disconnecting the cables on each side. So, I'm going to pick up the tailgate slightly, just going to pull out on the lock portion and disconnect it.Now, we need to have it picked up on slightly, and we're going to lift out on the passenger side and then pull out on the driver side. So, you could see here on the passenger side it's notched.

Once we've got it lined up, we're going to pull out, and then you'll want to be sure and guide your backup camera cable out if you have one. Now, we'll show you how to get your tailgate set up for your F150.We'll first take our gray PVC and we're going to insert it here on the driver side. Now, we'll need to install our four metal clips. The first one here, the tab is going to be facing this way, and we're just going to be clipping it on just like that until it snaps in place. The second one goes here at the top of the tailgate.

The tab needs to be facing up, and again, we'll listen for that click in place. Now, we can repeat the same process on the driver side. Now, it's time to install our cover pieces. Both of them are labeled. We'll install the passenger first. Now, the trick is here to do the top first and then roll it down in place, and we'll just line up the holes and insert our hardware. Now, we don't want to tighten these down all the way just yet because we want to be able to adjust it when it's in place on the truck. For the top, we'll have to stand it up or flip it over, and same thing here, loosely install it. Next, you'll want to flip it over so you can install your cables. So, we'll want to take the metal end, line it up with the hole here, and insert our included hardware. Now, we're ready to install it on the truck. We'll want to insert the driver side first and then the passenger side. You'll want to have it at an angle and then we'll just drop it in. Before we put on our safety cables, we'll want to close up our tailgate and check our fit and make sure that our cover plates are adjusted properly. We want to make that gap right there as small as we can without it making contact with our truck. I'd say that looks pretty good. We can repeat the same process on the other side. Then, we'll take our tailgate back off to tighten up our cover plates and install the rest of our hardware. Make sure that it's nice and secure. Then, we can install our four black screws to permanently secure our cover plates. With everything tightened down, I've gone ahead and reinstalled my tailgate. Now, let's connect our safety cables. The looped end is just going to connect to our factory anchor points on each side. Now, let's check it out. Now, you're all set. You can back up to your fifth wheel or gooseneck without having to lower or remove your old tailgate. That's going to complete our installation of the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series Fifth Wheel Louvered Tailgate with Lock, part number VG-15-4000, on our 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCab.
