How to Install the Rola J-Rac Kayak Carrier on a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be test fitting the Rola J-Rac Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs, part number 59912.The Rola J-Rac is great for carrying up to one kayak on the roof of your vehicle and having enough space on the other side to install other accessories, such as a bike rack or another kayak carrier. The kayak simply sets on the J-Rac and it has padding in areas where it's going to make contact with your kayak, to help protect it against those scratches that you might incur when you're trying to install it.This does come with both the tie-down straps, as well as the bow and stern tie-downs to secure this to your roof as well. With the straps, it does have this cover that goes around the buckle, again to help protect the hull of your kayak.Unfortunately, when everything's attached, you can not open your rear hatch. Mainly because of the bow/stern tie-down, but even if this wasn't there, if you we're to open this up, it would make contact with the kayak. This is made from a black powder coated steel construction, so it's very durable and it's also corrosion resistant. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the kayak carrier, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. Loosen one of them up completely and remove it, take off the clamp and push it off to the side like so and then set it onto our bar. When we set it down, we want to try to keep it a little even with our rear hook, bring that clamp around, and reattach our turn mount.

Tighten our bolts here, turn knobs, till it's nice and tight. So, we'll take our kayak and put it in place. We already have one of our straps installed, with our second strap, you'll take the one end, we'll toss it over the kayak itself and then go to the back side of the kayak. Then we'll thread our open end around the top of the J, and toss it back over to the other side. Then we'll wrap the open end underneath the inside of our roof rack here and attach it to our buckle behind our protective coating here and singe it down. Pull it nice and tight and tie off the excess. Our final step is to attach our bow/stern tie-downs.

For the front you want to find either a tow hook or something like that underneath. Pull it nice and tight and then tie off the remaining excess. We already did this for the rear, so once this is done, we're going to be good to go.And there you have it for the Rola J-Rac Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs, part number 59912 on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek.
