Review of the RockyMounts Hitch Bike Racks on a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500

Hey everyone, Charles, here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Rocky Mounts mono-rail bike rack on a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500. So this bike rack is gonna be great for carrying a lot of different types of bikes. Because of the front wheel mount, you're not gonna have to worry about damaging your carbon frame or fitting those odd shaped bikes or anything like that. You're gonna have a weight capacity of 60 pounds per bike. Another cool feature is the tilt away.

By pulling on this lever, we can tilt this whole rack away with keeping the bike on the rack. And on our truck here, we are gonna make a little bit of contact with this pedal. But we can open it enough to grab our book bags helmets, whatever, or to open this tonneau cover. You can hear an audible click once that locks into place. So we're gonna have two attachment points keeping the bike on the rack, a rear wheel strap and the front wheel mounts.

To take the bike off, we're gonna start with the strap. So just push that button and get this out of the way. And then keeping one hand on the frame so it doesn't fall on your truck, we can push this button, lift up, push that out of the way, and now our bike is free. With the bike off we can take a closer look at some of these features. The front wheel mount is gonna have a denser foam padding to keep your tires safe.

And over here on the cradles, you can see we have this thin groove to support your road bikes, all the way up to your five inch fat tire bikes. And I really like that you don't have to pay anything extra for any adapters to accommodate those kinds of bikes. And the rear cradle will pivot to accommodate your wheel bases of up to 48 inches. And with a rack on the back of your vehicle, you have some added length. So from the bumper to the furthest point out is about 33 and 3/4 inches.

Something to keep in mind when you're backing in a tight space. And the ground clearance to the bottom of this handle, it's about 25 inches. And from the shank about 18 inches. Another thing to keep in mind when you're going up and down those steep hills and driveways. The front of your vehicle's gonna go up, and the rear's gonna go down. We could also fold this rack up to save some room for our garage or a parking lot, or anything like that. And so now the furthest point of the rack is gonna be about 16 and 1/4 inches. And the closest point, it's gonna be about five and 3/4 inches. But nothing to worry about as it's not gonna get any closer than that. Over here, we have our two inch shank that fits in through our two inch hitch receiver. We have the anti-rattle bolt and lock, that's gonna be keyed alike for your included cable lock here. And the anti-rattle bolts feature, as you can see as I'm shaking the rack, the whole truck is moving, ensuring its secure connection. So overall, this is one of my favorite racks. For its price point, you get a lot of premium features, like the tilt away. I love it's versatility as far as the weight capacity and having the front wheel mount. If you wanted something where you can accommodate more bikes. Let's say you and your family and your friends are going on a trip and you have, you know, kids' bikes too. Check out the Yakima Gatekeeper. We have a five and a six bike version, but it just goes on the side of your bed right here. But other than that, this is a great choice. And that's gonna do it for our look on the Rocky Mounts mono-rail bike rack, on a 2016 GMC Sierra 2500..
