How to Install the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain Tow Bar on a 2018 GMC Acadia

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today, on our 2018 GMC Acadia, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Nighthawk Roadmaster Tow Bar. This is going to give you a little bit more piece of mind because of one thing that most others don't have, and that's this LED lighting here on the side. It's going to illuminate at night, and it's also going to help other motorists be aware that you're towing a vehicle. Now, since these lights are LEDs they're going to be very bright, you can see how bright they illuminate, even on a sunny day. Now our tow bar is going to serve the same purpose as the others, and it's going to not only safely, but securely let us tow our vehicle down the road. You're not going to have to worry about getting a separate ball mount or anything special to connect our tow bar to our motor home. It has an integrated two end shank, that way it'll allow us to just simply plug right in to our hitch.

Now, on the vehicle side, the tow bar is going to work with MS, MX and EZ5 base plates. It's also going to come with the necessary hems and clips to get everything attached. Now, the telescoping arms are nice because they're going to give us a large hook up radius. That way we don't have to be directly straight on of our motor home to get it hooked up. It's going to make life a lot easier. Now a lot of times you won't be on perfectly level pavement when you're either hooking up or disconnecting your tow bar.

When that happens, sometimes your tow bar can get in a bind, making it difficult to either get hooked up or disconnected.Well this does feature release handles that you would pull up on, and that would get your tow bar out of that bind. Now it is made from an aluminum construction, and it does have a nice thick black powder coated finish. So not only is it going to be light weight, it's going to give us that nice long-lasting look. Now the inner arms are going to be made from stainless steel to give us a smooth operation. on one end of our cable, will be a seven way connector, and on the other end will be a six pin connector, now it does come with some heavy duty safety cables, and have hooks like this, so they're easy to get on and off. Now the tow bar does have a 8,000 pound weight capacity, and the whole thing itself only weighs 35 pounds. Now the cool thing about this tow bar, when you're not using it, it can be stored to free up a little more space.

You simply disconnect it from your vehicle, fold the arms together, and it's going to clip into this mechanism here. And you can just rotate it down like that. Speaking of installation, we're going to connect our tow bar to our hitch. We're going to slide our shank into the reviver tube. Now we want to line up the hole in the shank with the hole in our hitch. Push it in we can our included pin and clip and slide it through.

Now we can take the ends of our tow bar, and just slide them into the arms on our vehicle. Once you have it in place, you can take the pin, feed that through, and you're going to want to line the hole up in the pin, with the hole up in the arm bracket. We'll take our clevis pin, drop that down through there and lock it like that. We're going to repeat that same process on the other side. Now we can connect our wiring. So just take the end, and simply push it into place, and back on the RV side, we can take our seven way in and plug that in as well. Now with everything else hooked up, we can put on our safety cables. Now, you so want to crisscross these, and what I mean by that, is take on end on the driver's side, and bring it to the passenger side of your vehicle. And that'll do it for our look at, and installation of the Nighthawk Roadmaster Tow Bar on our 2018 GMC Acadia.
