How to Install the RoadMaster Falcon Tow Bar on a 2020 Jeep Cherokee

Ryan: Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Jeep Cherokee we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Falcon all-terrain tow bar. So we're going to need five main components to flat tow our Cherokee down the road. We're going to need our base plate. inaudible 00:00:17 going to give us that solid and reliable connection point to hook up our tow bar to.

A tow bar is going to be another component. One end is going to hook up to the front of our Jeep and the other end is going to hook up to the back of our motor home. And this is actually going to be that physical link that pairs the two together.Third thing that we're going to need is safety cables. Now these are here in the event of a catastrophic disconnect. These are going to keep everything attached.

The fourth component will be tow bar wiring. So the wiring is going to transfer the lighting signals from the back of your motor home to the back of your Jeep that way everyone behind you knows what's going on. The fifth main component being a braking system. So the braking system is going to independently apply the Jeep brake pedal whenever you hit the brakes in your motor home. That way your stops are going to be more safe and predictable.

So right off the bat, this going to be a great all around tow bar in my opinion. It's going to have not all the bells and whistles, but the ones that are really important, at least the ones that would be important to me. One of the best things about it is that it is non-binding.So it's going to have these levers here that release the arms if they do get into a bind. And if you've ever experienced that, you know it can be a real pain to get it disconnected when you do arrive to your campsite. If you haven't experienced that, you don't want to.

These arms lock into place whenever you're towing down the road. And so when you get to your destination, sometimes the ground can be uneven and tow bars, without the non-binding feature, pretty much get locked into the base plate. They're nearly impossible to get out. Sometimes you have to take a hammer and beat on them. And just something you're not going to want to have to deal with. With these, if that does happen to you and does get locked like that, you're just going to take the levers, pull them up, the arms are going to become not binded anymore, and make it really easy to disconnect.I really like how the Falcon all-terrain tow bar here is also going to have these channels on the sides of it. So these channels are going to allow you to run your electrical cable through as well as your safety cables. So in my opinion, it's going to look really clean and have a nice tidy look whenever you're going down the road. And not to mention, you're not going to have to worry about your electrical cable or your safety cables dragging the ground. So let's just put your mind at ease knowing that everything is up out of the way and safe. The tow bar is going to work with Roadmaster base plates. And it can also work with other brands of base plates if you use an adapter, which you can find here at etrailer. This is going to have a 6,000 pound weight capacity, which is going to be more than enough to pull your Cherokee even if you have a bunch of gear and stuff loaded on the inside. And it's going to be made from stainless steel and have a really nice thick powder coat finish so you're not going to have to worry about it wearing out. So the tow bar is really easy to disconnect and store whenever you are ready to drive your Jeep. And I went ahead and disconnected our safety cables and our other components, as well as the other side of our tow bar. But this side's going to be set up the exact same way. All we're going to have to do is pull up on this ring and it pulls this pin out. inaudible 00:03:53 just pull out on that pin and raise our tow bar up and out of the way. What you can do is pull back on the levers and push the arms all the way down, kind of fold the tow bar together. Then you can raise it up into position. Let's hold it over to one side. Sometimes in these tow bars are brand new, they're a little tight. So you're going to have to kind of break it in a little bit. That's a good thing. It'll lock into place and you can actually store it like this on the back of your motor home. And that makes life a lot easier. You're not going to have to deal with pulling it in and out. You can actually pick up a lock. It'll lock the tow bar to the motor home that way you don't have to worry about theft or anything like that. And if you plan on keeping it stored on the back of your motor home for awhile, you can actually pick up a cover to help keep it protected. And that'll finish up our look at of the Roadmaster Falcon all-terrain tow bar on our 2020 Jeep Cherokee.
