How to Install the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar on a 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited

Hi there, Jeep owners. Today, in our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited, we're going to be taking a look at Roadmaster's Falcon All-Terrain Non-Binding Tow Bars. The Falcon All-Terrain Non-Binding Tow Bar is your ultimate 6,000 pound tow bar. Tow bars are one of the main components you're going to need when flat towing your Jeep behind your RV. In addition to the tow bars, you'll also need a base plate. The allows you to make the connection between the tow bar to your vehicle.

You'll also need your braking system. This is going to go in your vehicle and it's going to supplemental to help it stop when you stop in your motor home. You'll need safety cables. These connect between the vehicle and the motor home like your tow bar and they're supplemental in the case of a catastrophic disconnect. You'll also need your diode wiring.

This is going to allow the lights on your motor home to be transferred back to your vehicle, so that way everybody behind you knows your intentions. It features a 6,000 pound capacity, which is adequate for your Jeep Wrangler, and a few extra features that a lot of other tow bars don't come with such as our channels here down the side. That keeps all of our cables nice and neat and up off the road. This tow bar will work with any Roadmaster baseplate. There's also adapters available at etrailer.com to allow it to work with other manufacturer's baseplates. Also, it's a non-binding tow bar. So, what that means for you, if you're parked on any uneven terrain like you might have at your campsite, it can be very difficult to sometimes disconnect your tow bar arm from your baseplate due to that bind.

The lever here will release the tow bar, allowing it to slide in a little bit. This little bit of movement allows it to free up, making it easy to remove your pin. You can see here that when your tow bar's fully extended, it locks in place and the lever here will allow it to release, going back in. That's what makes it non-binding.When not in use, your tow bar can be folded up into the storage position. The head of the bolt here at the center will lock in place on the release arm here and you can then fold it off to one side, wrap up your cables, and your motor home is now ready to travel with the tow bar still attached. We'll begin by preparing our tow bars.

To make it easier to get them prepared, I've gone ahead and slid it into the receiver on our motor home. We're going to go ahead and secure it with the included pin and clip. That'll hold it up, making it easier to put our safety cables and wiring through the channels on each side of our tow bar arms. We'll start with our wiring. We want to make sure our 7 pole end is on the motor home side and we're going to slide it down the arm that's closest to the wiring on our vehicle. For our Wrangler here, it's going to be on the driver side. So, we're going to slide it down that arm. Here on the other end, we're going to have to attach our 6 pole connector. The wiring comes with that disconnected to make it easy to slide it through, and we're just going to connect that using the instructions that comes with our wiring. Next, we'll run our safety cables through. We're going to put the hook side towards the vehicle and the loop side towards the motor home. It'll simply just push through. The other side's going to work the same way. It's going to be a little tighter with the wiring in there, but it does fit. We can then connect our safety chains to our motor home. Take the C-shaped hooks that come in the kit with your safety chains, put those on your hitch and slide the looped end onto that hook and tighten the nut down. When installing these, you want to make sure that you cross them. So, we're using the cable that's run through the passenger side arm and we're hooking that to the driver side safety chain loop on our hitch. We're going to do the opposite with the other one and this creates a cradle here at the hitch to catch the tow bar in the event of a disconnect. We can also hook up our 7 pole wiring while we're here. Then on our vehicle side, we can take our tow bar and connect it to our baseplate. The tow bar arm is going to fit between the opening here on our baseplate. We'll take the pin that comes with our tow bar, slide it through the baseplate and the tow bar arm. On the other side of our pin, we'll use the smaller pin that's tethered to it to keep it locked into position. We're going to do this with the other side as well.We can then make the rest of our connections on our vehicle side. We'll hook up our safety cables to their connection point on the baseplate, hook up our 6 pole wiring connector, the connector at the front of the vehicle. Then regardless of which braking system you have installed, they will all have a breakaway switch, so you want to make sure you connect that. Then depending on the braking system that you have installed, you may have additional connections that you'll need to make. With all of our connections made, we can place our Jeep into tow mode and we're ready to hit the road. That completes our look at Roadmaster's Falcon 2 All-Terrain Non-Binding Tow Bar on your 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited.
