How to Install the Roadmaster Diode 7 to 6 Wire Coil Kit on a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Today in our 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Road Master Diode Seven Wire to Six Wire FlexiCoil Wiring Kit. Part Number RM-15267. First thing we'll need to do to begin our install is we're going to need to remove this little cover right here and in order to do that there's going to be six total push pins. Four up along the front here and then two more along the backside that I'll show you. You can take a flat-head screwdriver. Just pop the center of those down.

Then they should pull right out. The other two push pin fasteners are located here up on the back side and they come out just like those other four did. I'll take my flat-head screwdriver and get that loosened up. Take that out. I can do that the same with the other one. You want to hang onto this because once you pull the last one out it'll come right down.

We can set that aside. I started up here at the front. I went up, then along the inside of the passenger side fender underneath the hood and then once I got to the back side of that fender I ran it back down the inside of the wheel well to begin running it along the frame. After running it down the inside of this fender well here I'm able to come down and run it along the top of the frame all the way to the back. Once I got back to the rear axle I had to go up and over and I went through a section of the cross member and then through two holes in the frame tipping it around to get upwards towards the passenger side tail light. In order to remove the tail lights what we'll need to do is that a Phillips-head screwdriver and take out these two screws that are towards the center of the vehicle.

We can take the light assembly and we'll push it towards the center of the vehicle and then it will pop out because it's held in that side by those tabs right there. Once we've got it out we can push on the little tabs here and pull these plugs out. Now on this one all you got to do in order to move that is pry on that red tab this direction and then you'll be able to press down on that tab to release this. We can repeat that same process on the other side. Right here we've got this plastic covering.

I'm going to drill a hole through this and then use a couple more drill bits to make it a little bit bigger so I can feed my wiring up through that hole. To remove that you can simply reach in there and pull it out with your hand in order to get access to that little plastic cover that we'll drill through. Now that we've got this out and we've got both sides disconnected what we can do is take our connectors here. We can take a test light and test to see which is which. That one's going to be our turn signal and our break light power right there. That solid one, that's going to be our parking lights. If we match those pins up the white and yellow wire on this one, that's our turn signals and breaks. The white and purple wire in the center there, that's going to be our parking lamp so you want to make sure to remember that so you know which wire you need to tap into. Take a knife and just carefully separate it so you can get into this loom. I'm just going to cut this tape down here towards the connector to give myself just a little bit of extra room still. Now that I've got a little bit of room to work, first thing I'll do is I'll take the yellow and white wire, which is our turn signal and breaks, clip it and strip both ends of it. We'll clip through the green wire, which will be going to this side. You'll want to be careful to not accidentally cut the other wires. I can pull that green wire off of there and separate it from the rest of them. Now you can strip the end of that green wire coming from the front. Once I've got those stripped I can take one of my diodes and for this we'll be using the one that has three blue spade connectors on either end. Put one on each of these wires that I just stripped. I'll crimp them down, making sure that they're not going to come off. Finally the end of the green wire here. Once I've got all three of those crimped and firmly in place I'll be able to take this diode. The single spade will be going to the side going towards this connector. The other two will go on the other side that has two connectors on it. Once we've got the one installed we can come over here and we'll be able to start on our purple wire. I'll clip that one just a little bit higher up just to offset where the diodes will be a little bit. Again with this one I'll strip either end of it. Then for this one we're using the brown wire and this white wire's going to be the ground that I'm just going to ground to the body over here. I can take both of those and clip them but I'm going to leave the yellow in tact right now. Then I can split the brown and white wires and for the brown wire here I'll strip the sheath off the end of it but then I'm also going to need to take the other end of that brown wire that I just clipped off and I'll need to strip the end of it as well. The reason I'm doing that is because with this yellow spade connector right here I'm going to be putting in both ends of this brown wire. Then we can take our other two blue spade connectors off of our diode and install them on the two ends of our purple and white wire. With those hooked up I can take the spade connector that's coming from our connector for the light, slide it on to the outside and I can take the other blue one on the purple and white wire, slide it on to one side and the one with both brown wires I'll install there as well. Now what I'll be able to do is I can take the white wire, I'll strip the end of the sheath off and I'll grab the blue ring terminal that comes with the kit, slide it over the end there, crimp it into place. Make sure it's nice and tight. With that blue ring terminal I can take my five sixteenths inch head self-tapping screw. I'll just install it over here in the sheet metal for a body ground. With our ground installed I'll be able to take the brown and yellow wire that we have still and I'll feed them back down through that hole that we made so that way we can go back to the driver's side taillight with them. With our brown and yellow wires run back down through we're done in this side so we can hook our connector back up to our taillight and reinstall the taillight. I took the yellow and brown wire back down from that hole that I made in that covering up there, brought it down and just cut through the frame there. Ran along the top side of the hitch bracket to the other side and then up past the foam covering up there into the little opening right behind the taillight. Here on the driver's side we repeated the same process to test to see which wires are going to be the wires that have power and you'll want to be sure to do that on this connector that has five pins because with the two connectors over here one has four pins inside of it and the other has five. You'll want to be sure to test the five pin connector. On this connector I found that this green and white wire here is the one that runs the turn signal and the brake and then the orange and white wire right next to it is the one that runs the parking lights. I'll cut this electrical tape back. First I'll do the green and white wire. I'll strip either end of it. I can split my yellow and brown wires. I'll just make sure I've got enough and I can clip off any excess from this yellow wire. I'll strip the sheath off of it. I can take the blue connectors off of the diode and begin to crimp them on this side just like I did the other side. Now I can install my diode. The single outside I will again put towards the connector that goes to the taillight. On the inside I can put my other two connectors. The other end of the green and white wire and the yellow wire. Once I'm done with that one I can take the orange wire here and do the same thing. Then we can reinstall our connectors. You also don't want to forget about this red tab that locks that connector in place. Once you've done that, you can reinstall the taillight. Once we're all done wiring everything up in the rear of the vehicle we can go back and take a little bit of black RTV silicone and just fill in that hole in order to help keep out moisture and the elements. Now we can come up back to the front here. I'm just going to use this to separate the ends of the wires here before we get ready to plug it into our six round connector. What I'm going to do is I'm going to take this little rubber covering that goes on the back of our six round connector and I'm just going to feed it up the wire a little ways to keep it out of the way. I'll make sure that these are split a few inches up then I'm going to strip the ends of each wire. I'll refer to my instruction manual to make sure that I'm hooking them up in the correct location into the back of the six way connector. I'll loosen up the screws on the four connections I'm going to need and back them out almost all the way to make sure that I can feed a wire into there. On here it's labeled so we'll go ahead and begin connecting those. All four wires should be in there securely. Once they're in there you can replace that little rubber cover by sliding it up over the back to help give you protection from the elements. Now all that's left is once the base plate's installed we can mount our six round connector. Now we'll hook it up to test and see that it's working. Let's test our taillights. Test our right brake light and our right turn signal. Let's test our left brake light and our left turn signal. That's going to complete our look at the Road Master Diode Seven Wire to Six Wire FlexiCoil Wiring Kit. Part Number RM-15267 on our 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
