How to Install the Rhino Rack Roof Rack on a 2019 Kia Sorento

Today on our 2019 Kia Sorento, we're gonna be doing a test fit on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars with SRB legs. This system is specifically designed to work with your flush mounted rails on you Sorento's roof. We're also gonna be able to carry roof mount accessories, things like bike racks, kayak carriers, and cargo boxes. It features 49 inch long Vortex Aero Crossbars. You can see how they span across the entire roof of our Sorento. The nice thing about this is we're gonna be able to carry not one, but maybe two or even three accessories on a roof.

So, maybe you'd like to carry two or three bike racks up there, or maybe even two kayaks. They're made out of aluminum, so we don't need to worry about rust or corrosion. I've also got the black installed, but they're available in silver, so if that's something you're interested in, see etrailer.com.Now, you'll notice that they are aerodynamic. These are gonna be a lot quieter than your traditional round or square bars. They're gonna work with your standard clamp on accessories, as well as your T slot accessories.

To access that, you can just remove the end cap, and we've got the T channel up top here. In order to put it in place, you can remove and trim the rubber strip, and replace it around your accessories, giving you a nice clean look. With that being said, the end cap has a plastic lock core. If you'd like to upgrade for more security, you can change that out with a metal locking core. Now, the crossbars are held in place by four SRB legs. This is what attaches to our flush mounted rails.

It's got a bracket designed to fit into the holes on the inside of our flush mounted rails, making a nice secure fit. Now, they do feature rubber padding here on the inside. That way they don't harm or scratch that finish should we wanna take the roof rack system off. It has a very unique design. No tools are required.

The tool is actually integrated. This is how you tighten it or loosen it. Once you've got it where you want it, it folds down, and we can even lock it to prevent anyone from removing it from our flush mounted rails. Now because those brackets fit within the holes in the inside of our rails, even though it looks like the feet can be adjusted along the rails, they cannot. It is a fixed mounted system. We do have two options on top of our Sorento, but within those two options our crossbar spread is gonna be between 32 and 34 inches. You wanna be sure you set it to where it's gonna work best with your accessories. Now this roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 pounds. You do, however, wanna check with your Sorento's owners manual to see if your roof can support that much weight. Now we'll give you some clearance measurements. This'll give you an idea of how much you've added to the top of your roof. It also may help you when using those clamp on accessories. From the top of the roof to the underside of the bar is about 2 1/2 inches. From the top of the roof to the top of the bar is about 3 3/4 of an inch. Now that we've done all the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it set up. I've already got that front crossbar in place, mounted to my flush mounted rails. The rear one installs the same way. Let's go ahead and do it together. I've got one of my SRB legs installed right here. We just need to repeat the same process on the other side. They're very easy to install. All we have to do is slide it onto the channel underneath our bar. So, we'll wanna unlock our end cap and take that off if you haven't already. And then, we're gonna slide this portion into the channel here. Now we wanna be sure that our brackets T bolt is pushed all the way to the top within this plastic piece here. So, to make sure that's on, I'm going to apply pressure on it. That way, when se slide it on, it gets slid on correctly. It should go on pretty easy, like so. Now, we don't need to worry about setting it at a specific spot on our channel. We will adjust it when we get it on our Sorento. Other than that, we're ready to set it in place on our roof. Now when we set it in place, we wanna gently rest it on our flush mounted rails. Now you'll notice, here on the rails, we've got two holes. These are gonna be two different options we can set it. I'm gonna do the one closest to the front crossbar. So, I'm gonna go with this one here. Now, since our clips on the inside are specifically designed to fit in one of those holes, we're gonna make sure that it is set up the same on both sides. There we go. Here on this side you can see the peg on the inside bracket. Again, that's going to fit into the hole on the inside of the rail.Once it's in place on both sides, we can then raise up our handle here and begin tightening it down. We don't wanna tighten it down all the way just yet, because we then need to adjust our bar overhang. We'll need to make sure it's the same on both sides. Now, you can either eye it up, or you can use a tape measure. I think mine looks pretty good, so I'm gonna go ahead and tighten this down all the way. You don't need it overtightened, just get it nice and snug. And then, we'll push it down and lock it up. Once everything's assembled and installed correctly, you can give it a good shake. You can see your roof rack's not going anywhere. You're ready to load up your favorite roof mount accessories and hit the road. But, that's gonna complete our test fit of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system on our 2019 Kia Sorento.
