Review of the Rhino Rack Roof Rack on a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Malibu we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack 2500 series roof rack with square cross bars, part number DS126B. These are going to be the cross bars for naked roofs or fixed mounting points, and these are going to be 49" long, we'll also be using part number DK462, which is the custom fit kit for the Malibu. The Rhino Rack 2500 series roof rack is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof while freeing up space inside your Malibu. This can carry anything from bike racks to cargo baskets to cargo boxes. While the square bars are strong and durable, they are going to make noise while you drive. What I recommend is an after market faring which you can find on etrailer.com to cut down that wind noise and drag. The end caps do come with locks already installed, so once you install this it is going to be secure to your roof. Next I'd like to give you a couple quick measurements from the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is going to be about 2 and 7/8", and from the center to the top is going to be about 3 and 7/8".

So, that's more than enough space in between the bars and the roof to install any accessory you may have that wraps around those bars. However, if you do have a sunroof in some applications, I would not recommend using that once the roof rack and the accessories are installed. With both bars combined, it's going to have a carrying capacity of 165 pounds, but you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand those weights. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have our front bar already installed on our vehicle, and we have our rear bar partially assembled on our table. Our next step is we're going to take our 2500 series leg and fit kit and install it to the other end of our bar. We'll first flip the bar upside down to make it a little bit easier on us. You'll see it has this track on the bottom, and this portion here is going to slide into that bottom track.

So we'll line it up, and slide it into place. Next, you'll notice the channel here stops at this point. That's when this strip would come into play. There's a measurement that you can find in your instructions as to how much space is going to be between this point and the leg. For demonstration purposes, we're not going to be installing this, but if you were, you would cut it to length, put in the proper place and leave it there. So, we're going to take our handy measuring tape here and measure it out in accordance with the instructions.

Then we'll take our included tool here and tighten the leg down to the bar. Next we'll install our rubber pad on the bottom of our leg. You can see the rubber pad has these points that fit right into the bottom here. You just want to make sure that it's the proper number and the arrow is facing the proper way, and you'll find this in your instructions as well. Then it just pushes right into place. Then, finally we can install our clamp by removing the bolt in the center here.

Like so, line it up, reinsert the bolt but only loosely so we're able to put it in place when we need to.Next we can open up our rear doors and install this on the roof of our vehicle. Take our bar, set it in place. Then our next measurement's going to be center to center of the bars on both sides to make sure it's even and then we can start tightening this down to our roof. Next we'll just loosely tighten the clamp up to our door frame here, taking our included tightening tool to do so, and then we'll tighten it down evenly on both sides until it's done. This tool is pretty unique, as you can see it has this bend in it, and as you tighten it, once that straightens out, that means it's tightened down to its specifications so you don't over tighten it. Then attach our locking end caps here, and finally install our end cap on our bar, and now we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. There you have it for the 2500 series roof rack on our 2018 Chevrolet Malibu.
