How to Install the Reese Elite Series Underbed Gooseneck Hitch Pop-In Ball Kit on a 2022 Chevrolet

Hey everyone, how's it going Today, we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Reese Elite Series Pop-In Gooseneck Hitch Ball Kit here on a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. So this is everything our kit is going to come with, starting with the bag here, so this is a really nice carrying case, you can see we have some handles on here, and this is gonna fit all the components you see here inside this bag. Now, this is a nice, soft padded case, it doesn't take up a ton of space, so it's great to store inside your vehicle, so you have everything there when you need it. Next, we have our little rubber plug here, so this is gonna go into the gooseneck opening here of the trailer hitch on our truck, and it's gonna protect the gooseneck opening from any dirt, debris, contaminants getting in there, possibly messing up the mechanism. Next, on the outside here, we have our safety chain loop, so these are gonna be required by law to attach your safety chains to the truck, and these are basically just gonna provide a nice, wide opening there for your clevis hooks. They have a nice black powder coated finish as well, so it's gonna protect them from rust and corrosion, 'cause these things are made out of metal.

And then finally, we have the star of the show, which is the gooseneck hitch ball, so this is gonna be a 2 5/16 diameter hitch ball, that's gonna be an industry standard and the most common one, so chances are, the one you're gonna need. Now, the hitch ball has a nice coating on there, this is actually a chrome-plated coating, so it's gonna do a great job of, again, protecting the hitch ball and the metal underneath from rust and corrosion. Now, I do recommend keeping this nice and lubricated while you're using it, so you don't ever have any issues with the hitch ball getting stuck or the locking mechanism. So in regards to fit, this kit here is gonna be specific for models with the factory in bed prep package, so this is pretty easy to determine whether or not you have it, you're just gonna look in your truck bed, and it's gonna be composed of a series of four outer pucks and then that center gooseneck hitch ball opening. Now, we'll show you what it looks like in a second, but as we said, it's pretty straightforward, just look in your truck bed to see if you have those pucks.

If you do, great, this kit is gonna work, if not, you're gonna actually purchase an entire underbed gooseneck hitch. Now, in regards to the capacity here of our kit, it's gonna be 30,000 pounds, which is going to translate to the amount you can pull on your fully loaded trailer. Now, chances are, that 30,000 pound rating of this kit here is going to exceed the truck, so you really don't ever have to worry about maxing out its capacity. So now that we've gone over the kit a little bit, let's go ahead and jump right into the installation, so we can show you how easy it is to get done at home by yourself. So here is what the factory prep package looks like, as we said, it's pretty self-explanatory.

So we're gonna start our installation by installing our gooseneck hitch ball. So if you guys have these covers, they're pretty easy to get out with your hands, you shouldn't need a tool or anything, but just pry them out like so, and this is obviously our center gooseneck hitch ball opening that we're gonna insert our gooseneck hitch ball into. So right now, the hitch ball is in the locked position, so we're not gonna be able to install it in here. So in order to unlock it, we need to lift open this lever here, and we can actually rotate it to either side there, little wings on there are gonna keep it unlocked. So this is the unlocked position, and now, we can just drop our hitch ball into our socket.

Once that's done, we can rotate this in either direction to lock it in place. You can verify it's locked by simply grabbing the hitch ball and trying to pull up. Now, to install our safety chain loops, these are equally as easy. Again, if we have these little covers, go ahead and pull them out. Now, keep in mind, we wanna be installing these into the pucks closest to the tailgate, but all we need to do is line up the knob here with the puck system, it should just drop right into place, and then we rotate in either direction to lock it in place. You'll notice the center section is going to fall, so it's actually raised right now, and then when we rotate it, it's gonna fall, and that's what actually locks it in place. We could verify this again by just grabbing ahold and trying to pull up. But once we have this side done, we'll just do that exact same thing over on the other side. So now that we have everything installed, now's a good time to hook up your trailer and you're gonna head off down the road. But when you're done with your towing experience, you can easily remove all of these components, you just simply lift up, pretty much just the same thing we showed you in reverse, and then pull out, that's for the gooseneck, and for the safety chains, again, lift up on that center section, rotate, and then pull straight out. But that's pretty much it, so that's gonna do it today for our look and installation of the Reese Elite Series Pop-In Gooseneck Hitch Ball Kit here on a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500..
