How to Install Putco Running Boards on a 2005 Ford F-350

Today on our 2005 Ford F350 Super Duty well be installing the Putco Master Boss round running board, part number P62135. First before we install the running boards well need to do some preassembly. Well go ahead and take the drivers side running board, sit it out on a flat surface and install the front cap, or fender flare. Well use the cap screws and flange nuts to secure it. Then well move to the rear of the running board and install the rear cap. Again well use the cap screws and flange nuts to secure it.

Next well go ahead and install the rubber strip across the top of the running board. This will help seal the running board and the cab of the vehicle. This may need to be cut to fit so well go ahead and lay it out on the running board, mark it with a paint stick, and then cut it. Ill be using a utility knife and a pair of side cutters to get through it. Now with it cut to fit we can go ahead and install it onto the running board.

You can see the groove shape in our rubber strip will fit over the top edge of our running board. Now with our running board prepped well need to move over to the rocker panels of the vehicle and install the L brackets. L brackets will get secured with the 5/16th hex bolts and flange nuts along with the metric U nut and 8 millimeter bolts. Well take the 5/16th hex bolt, install a flat washer, go through the rocker panel and then install the flange nut. Next well install the metric nut into the rocker panel and secure it with the 8 millimeter bolt.

Each L bracket will get installed finger tight at this time. Now well go ahead and repeat the same process for the center and rear L bracket. Next well hold up the running board in its position, or close to its position, so you can see how the flap, or front cap, will need to be bent and contoured to the wheel well. Now that we have an idea of what will be necessary to contour around the wheel well well go ahead and sit it back down and just simply bend it into position. Now before we can install the running board well need to remove this screw as the front cap will take its place.

Now were ready to go ahead and put our running board into position. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you while you install your hardware, which will be the quarter inch hex bolt and quarter inch flange nut. Now were ready to go ahead and install your hardware, making sure our running board is level then securing the quarter inch flange nuts. Now well go ahead and repeat the same process for the center and rear L bracket. Now with the running board sit up onto the L brackets were ready to go ahead and tighten down the L brackets and then move to the flap. Well level the flap and use the self-threading screws and secure it to the inner fender well. Well move to the first L bracket making sure our board is level. Now well go ahead and level these out and tighten them down. Now well go ahead and repeat the same process for the center and rear L bracket. With that it secure our running board to the vehicle and will complete our install of the Putco Master Boss rounded running board, part number P62135, on our 2005 Ford F350 Super Duty.
