How to Install a PTC Custom Fit Cabin Air Filter on a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

Today on our 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the PTC custom fit cabin air filter. So here's what our old cabin filter looks like, compared to the new one. Now you can see that our old cabin filter's getting a little dirty, and it's turning a little brown, but if we actually open up the pleats on the filter, we can see all the larger pieces of debris that it's catching. Now if these large pieces make it further down into our cooling system and our heating system, can actually cause a lot of damage to all the components. So it's always an important thing to check your cabin filter to make sure these particles aren't getting into the HVAC system. Our new filter's gray, and that's because it's gonna be a charcoal filter. It's gonna filter out a lot more of the odors that we can get, whether it be from smoking, gas fumes, or anything else, and it's gonna be a lot more beneficial for people that have breathing problems over the white media particulate filter. Now one thing a lot of people don't think about whenever they're driving down the road, is the air quality inside their car. We don't know that the air outside can't be full of pollutants, but what most people don't know is that the inside air can actually be six times more polluted than the air outside. That's why it's important to check your cabin air filter, because it's gonna filter all that air that we're breathing inside of our car.Our cabin filter is gonna do for our car what our furnace filter does for our house.

It's gonna filter all that air to make sure that the quality of our air inside of our vehicle is the best that it can be. Whether you have breathing problems like asthma or anything else, or if you just want to make sure that the air inside is healthy for you, change your cabin filter is a good way to check it.Manufacturers recommend anywhere from 12,000 to 18,000 miles, or once a year. You just want to double check you Equinox's owners manual to see when you should change it. And even if you've never changed the cabin filter before, most of them are extremely easy to get to in most vehicles, and especially on our Equinox. So now that we've gone over the benefits and seen some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation we're gonna come to the front passenger seat right by our glove box. We can open it up, and if we look on the outside we're gonna have this little dampener that's kind of hooked on the side of this rod of this glove box here.

We want to pop that off, so just come to the side, and we'll pull away. Maybe a little bit of a tight fit, but it will just pop right off. Then we're gonna want to grab our glove box, and we're gonna squeeze in on each side, because there's two little tabs that keep the door from coming down all the way, so you just want to squeeze in on those tabs, till we can get them to come past, and we can get the glove box to come down all the way. Then we'll grab the bottom of our glove box, and we're gonna slide it off the hinge. It's gonna have these tabs right here that will line up. We can set this down, and we'll look inside. We'll find our blower motor, and the access door to our cabin filter.

There's gonna be two small bolts that are holding that door in place, so you want to grab a five and a half millimeter socket, and you pull those two bolts out.Be careful not to drop these because they are rather small. Now with the screws removed there's a small tab underneath each one of them, we're gonna press in on that tab on each side, and we'll lift the door up, and it'll just pivot out of the way, and grab our filter and we can pull it out.Now we can grab our new filter, now there is gonna be an airflow direction, make sure the arrows are pointing the same way that they we're when you pulled them out. And we'll just make sure the door's out of the way, and we'll slide in our new filter. Make sure it slides all the way in, we'll close our door, and we can reinstall the screws. Then we'll line up those tabs on the bottom, make sure our glove box goes back into place, you just want to make sure you have that dampener done, so it's not interfering, so we'll slide our glove box back in, and and pop the dampener back in place. That will finish up your look at the PTC custom fit cabin air filter on our 2019 Chevrolet Equinox.
