How to Install the Longview Custom Towing Mirrors on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we're going to be taking a look at the Longview Custom Slip-on Towing Mirrors for the driver and passenger side. Part number is LVT-1800. We've backed up to a 12-foot trailer here just to give you an idea of the expanded field of view that you can expect. As you can see, this is a where our factory mirror, it's going to do all of its work right here in this area, but when that longer trailer situation arises and it starts to get behind us, that towing mirror's really going to help us out, and it's going to allow us to get out here quite a bit further, out away from the trailer, so we can see that real axle and things. This is going to help to prevent some of those times where you have to stick our head out of the window or really try to turn around in our seat to see what's going on with our trailer. Now here's what our towing mirror looks like installed. The purpose of this is to give us a wider field of view.

That allows us to see our trailer and our cargo better. It's going to make passing, changing lanes, parking, backing into spots at the RV campground much easier. You'll see this custom design is made to fit right around the factory mirror, so we're going to be completely unobstructed. We'll have full range of motion and tilting that. It's going to leave any blinkers or in this case, the blind spot mirror, open and still usable.

The additional mirror face itself is going to measure 4-1/2 inches tall by 5-1/2 inches wide. That's actually giving you about another half of your factory mirror in addition to it here on the outside. We're going to have a full range of motion for adjustment, so we can get this dialed in exactly how we want it. It will match nicely with your mirror face and almost act like a seamless transition as you come over it. You'll see we do have the option for the tiltaway still or the breakaway feature with our mirror. That's not going to be interfered with.

It's got the ABS plastic housing. It's going to be nice, durable, also resist any kind of fading or cracking due to the UV rays, so they're going to look good for a long time to come. It's a tool-free installation. It's going to use a round knob attached to this hook. You can see that comes to the towing mirror, connects right here to the mirror, and keeps it really securely on our vehicle. Now the mirror surface is first-coat chrome.

That means the chrome's laid right down on the initial surface. That helps to minimize any of the distortion that we can sometimes get with the more convex shaped mirrors. The custom design's going to follow right along with our current vehicle shape. That's going to help to improve the aerodynamics which will reduce the wind noise or any vibration that we might experience. Now that we've had a look at this side, let's go over and show you how the other side installs. The beginner installation, we'll want to start with a clean mirror surface. Then we're simply going to slide our custom mirror over. You can see I've already started my hook and that small screw together. You'll see inside the pre-installed foam pads are going to be there as well as the felt pad there to give us a good, snug fit and again, eliminate any moving or vibrations. You're just going to take that and slide it right over the end. Just in the middle of it here, there will be an RH or an LH. LH is going to be for the driver's side or for the left hand. RH is going to be for our passenger side. That's just going to slip right over. You'll feel it come to a stop point there. At that point, we'll just bring our hook around the front side of the mirror face there, hook it on that edge, and begin to tighten down the knob. You'll see as we begin to tighten this, that foam pad rests right up against the mirror. That's going to have some compression to give us a great, snug fit. You're going to see our mirror installed. Full breakaway features there and nice and secure. That's going to complete our look at the Longview Custom Towing Mirrors for the driver and passenger side, part number LVT-1800, on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
