How to Install the Longview Custom Towing Mirrors on a 2008 GMC Sierra

Today on our 2008 GMC Sierra, we're gonna be taking a look at the Longview custom-fit towing mirrors. Before I go over features, they don't look too bad. You know, they do have a decent amount of knobs and stuff on the sides, but the AVS plastic really does match the OEM look. You can't really tell a whole lot of difference. And if you can tell a little bit of difference, you gotta remember this is an older vehicle, and these are brand new. So this is a little bit glossier, but the whole finish to it is the same.

So it's not really gonna stick out like a sore thumb, which is something I'm looking for. The only thing I can say bad about these, is just the knobs. It's somewhat of an eyesore, but since they're black and not that big it doesn't really stick out that much. When it comes to the mirror, it's not gonna be as big as the mirror on your vehicle, most likely, but as far as dimensions go, the width is going to be 5 1/2 inches wide, and the height is going to be 4 3/8 inches. And it is gonna be able to pivot up, down, right, and left, just like the ones on your vehicle.

But these are not gonna be powered, they're not gonna be heated or anything like that. And this is a flat mirror, meaning whatever it sees, it's gonna show the same exact as what it actually is. And what that really means is this is a convex mirror, which it kinda goes like this. You'll see a little bit more with the curved mirror. And then you see a little bit more with your factory mirrors as well.

When it comes to moving these in, you don't have to worry about it not being able to. It will rotate around like that, and it's not gonna hit any of the trim or anything. So if you are in some tight parking situations, or maybe your vehicle just has automatic mirrors, whenever you lock it up, it folds in, you don't have to worry about anything touching. At the end of the day, it's just gonna help us see whatever we're hauling a little bit better. That just gives me more peace of mind.

But let's just show you, might as well. So what we're gonna do is I'm gonna get in and drive around a little bit. What you wanna do is just get in, kinda adjust your mirrors just like you adjust anything else. So I can see the boat, but I kinda wanna hit my blind spot to where I can hardly see the boat, but when I'm like turning and stuff for the real wide stuff. So as you can see, you can see the whole boat right here, but for the turning and stuff, that's where the Longview is really gonna come into place. Starting the installation process, we wanna make sure we have the right mirror for the right side. And you can easily tell by just the way it fits. So what we wanna do is just get it in there and make sure that this edge is hugged up to the outside of our factory mirror. And this is where it gets a little different than some of the others. We're gonna have a lot of parts here, two wheels, two threaded portions, and then one right here. And this says right, which means when you're sitting in the driver's seat, the mirror to your right. So what we wanna do is take the one that has the little flat piece right here. And we're gonna feed this through this little spot right here, 'cause then it's not gonna come through. Then after that, I'm gonna put the rest of this stuff down, we're gonna take the little bracket with the R on it, right here, and we want this piece to be going that way, and this piece thread on like this, I have found it easier to take the knob and just put it on right away. Maybe like a thread or two. And it does kinda take a little bit right when you get it out of the box, 'cause it is plastic. So once you get it threaded, it'll be a little bit easier. What I do suggest to do with this one, we're gonna take the hook, go in, and again, just take that knob and thread it on a little bit. It's just a lot easier when the hook's not under any strain. Just thread it on just a little bit, and we're gonna take it, and it's gonna feel like we're stretching it a little bit, 'cause we kind of are. We're gonna take this little hook and get around that little lip right there. Now that that's in place, we can go ahead and tighten this up a little bit more. And I did notice that this wheel, you can hear that, it kinda hits the bottom of this. So you might see a little bit of wear if you do this a lot, but this definitely seems like a mirror that we put on and kinda keep on. And once that's done, we don't have to over tighten these, just because of the threads being plastic, but just make sure it's nice and secure. And then we can do that same exact thing on the other side. And at the end of the day, we just wanna be able to see the boat that we're hauling a little bit better, so we feel a little bit more safe on the road. And that's what the Longview Custom mirrors are going to do for you. And that's pretty much it for our look at the Longview towing mirrors on our 2008 GMC Sierra..
