How to Install the K Source Universal Clip-On Towing Mirror on a 2018 Ford Explorer

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford Explorer, we're going to be doing a test fit on the K Source Universal Clip-On Towing Mirror. It's available in a quantity of one with Part Number KS3891. You could also pick it up as a pair with Part Number KS3891-2.Now the towing mirror's a convex mirror so it's going to give us that extra wide field of view. It's going to allow us to safely and easily change lanes, pass, park, or even back up while towing a small trailer or a boat trailer. As you can see, I'm visible in the towing mirror, but not the factory mirror. Now our factory mirror does have a little blind spot mirror, but by purchasing the towing mirror, it's going to give us a larger view in that area.

Now if I take a few steps in towards my trailer, as you can see there's no blind blind spot by the way we have it set up, but this is the view you get with just your factory mirror. The mirror itself can be adjusted to most angles. We've got our up and down, diagonal, and side to side. Now if you like the horizontal view, you have the option to remove the Phillips head screw from behind and turn it to that position. The four tabs that clip on to the inside of the housing do make contact, slightly, with the factory mirror, but once you have it set to where you want, you're not going to have any issues. Here on the backside, it uses two adjustable ratchet straps to hold it in place. The nice thing about the ratchet strap style is it's going to get a tighter fit compared to that adjustable rubber strap style.

Now they do feature large pads so again, you're not going to have to worry about any scratching or harm to that mirror. The bottom portions of the straps are rubberized, so you're going to be able to maneuver them around like inaudible 00:01:39 lamps or auxiliary lights like on our DARE police car here, so it's going to fit nicely.A few great things about this mirror are, is for one it's for temporary use so you can take it off when you're done towing. Another great thing is since it is universal, if you have any other trucks or SUVs in the household, it may work with those as well. Now we'll show you how easy they are to install. So I'm here on the driver's side of my Ford Explorer. To make sure that the mirror fits correctly, we're going to make sure that our tabs here are pulled out so we can easily fit them in place.

Once they're all in position, we can turn our mirror back over. We want to make sure that the tabs go between the mirror and the housing. I'm also just going to center my mirror up. Once I've got it where I want it, I can run my straps on the backside. Now when we run our straps, we want to make sure that the rubber pad is going to contour the back of the mirror, so we're going to put in on in this direction. I'll take my top portion of my strap and hook it on just like that.

And then I'll hook it on the bottom the same way. Once I've got it hooked, I'll come up to my ratchet, and begin ratcheting it down. You can see how the rubber pad is going to draw upward and make a nice, snug fit, and we can repeat the same process with the second ratchet. When we're done towing and we wish to take the mirror off, underneath our cover we've actually got a little tension release button. By pushing that we can easily guide the strap out so we can easily take it off. But for right now, let's go ahead and connect it the same way. We've also got a little keeper attached to the strap, so we can keep everything together. With this one being done, if you got the pair, you can simply just repeat the same process on the passenger side. And that's going to complete our test fit on the K Source Universal Clip-On Towing Mirror on our 2018 Ford Explorer.
