How to Install the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs on a 2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today in this 2013 Dodge Ram pickup, we're going to install part number: F2299. This is the Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs. To start off our install, we'll go ahead and get the vehicle ready. First, we need to remove the jounce bumpers. They're bolted to the frame above the axle. Now, we're going to go ahead and start off on the driver's side and everything will be the same on the passenger's side as well.

Now, to remove the jounce bumper they're two bolts that we need to take out. The hardware and the bumper will not be re-installed. Next we'll go ahead and assemble our upper bracket. Now, there's two pieces. If you look on the side there's two settings, one for four-wheel drive and one for two-wheel drive. We're going to set ours for four-wheel drive.

Put the bracket in place and then install the 3/8 fasteners. We can go ahead and tightened those down for good. The lower bracket is reversible depending on the type of vehicle. The U bolt for springs are small so we have to put it an angle and set it down flat. If it sits flat, that's the correct side.

Now, we can go ahead and start assembling our air spring. We'll go ahead and take our bracket and we'll mark which way it will go to our spring and then we'll go ahead and bolt our air spring to it.Now, between our air spring and our bracket, we're also going to install the spacer. We'll go ahead and thread this down and take up the slack. You won't need to tighten it up yet. We'll flip it over then we'll install the airline fitting.

We simply thread it into place until to seal it and engage the other threads. You may turn after that. Now, let's take our upper bracket and we'll go ahead and bolt it to the truck. This we'll install in the same original spot as the jounce bumpers. Now, we can go ahead and install the air spring in the lower bracket. It's a good idea to squeeze the airbag as far as possible and then put it into place. You have to work on the lines around the axle to get it in there. Then we'll take the thread fitting and run through one of the holes in the upper bracket. Now, if you look on the bracket, there's an extra set of holes. This is where to button on top of the air spring will fit into one of those holes. You have two different options as shown here. This will give us an adjustment for the air spring to be in a straight line as possible. Then we'll rotate the button until it snaps into place. Then well check for alignment.Once we're satisfied with the alignment, we can go ahead and install the rest of our hardware. There will be a star washer that goes over the airline fitting and then the 3/4 inch nut. We'll thread those down and then we'll go ahead install the U bolt for this lower bracket. That will go over the top of the bracket and then down across your axle and then we'll install the clamp below. Then we'll install the 3 extension nuts for the clamp. Now, it's a good time to take one final check before tighten everything down. Once we're satisfied, we'll go ahead and tighten down the 3/4-inch nut on the airline fitting and then the U bolt on the bottom. With that our air spring is installed. Now, we need to run our airline. We'll go ahead and take our airline with a tubing cutter. We'll go ahead and make sure the cut is square. The tubing cutter is part number: F9009. This does not come with the kit. We'll go ahead and push it into our airline fitting on top of the air spring. We'll push it all the way down until it stops and give a gentle thug back to make sure it's secure. Then we'll go ahead and route our airline towards the bumper. Now, we're going to drill a hole through our bumper right next to the license plate on the driver's side. Eventually, we're going to run both airline connection points to this area. We'll go ahead and make our first mark then drill out to a 5/16th hole. After you drill a hole, we'll go ahead and cut our line to lengths. It's a good idea to leave an extra loop in the line in case we need to take it apart and reseal the airline fitting on the unit. Then we'll take our airline fitting and push it on the end of our airline. Then we'll install one of our stainless steel washers on to our airline fitting and then push it through the hole. The other side, we'll get another stainless steel washer and then the nut. Then we'll go ahead and snug it down for good.At this point, we'll go ahead and use the zip tight that comes with the kit to help secure the airline to keep it from moving around anymore than it has to. We're done with the driver's side. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process over in the passenger side with just one modification. We need to add a heat shield. When we add the heat shield, we do that when we air spring going into the upper bracket. The heat shield will simply sit on top of the air spring and get sandwiched between the air spring and the upper bracket. When we put in place, we make sure it doesn't interfere with button where it fits into the upper bracket. With that everything else is identical instead we just have a little bit length of airline tubing over our connection point at the bumper. Everything is installed. Let's go ahead and take it for a test drive and see how it works. We took two test drives. We took one before we installed the air spring and one after. The air pressured used on after was about 60 pounds. With that thus finish our install of part number: F2299 from Firestone on our 2013 Dodge Ram pickup. .
