How to Install the Firestone Level Command II on a 2011 Ford F-350


Today on our 2011 Ford Super Duty well be installing the firestone level command two dual gauge with heavy duty compressor, part number F2219 to an already existing firestone airbag suspension system, part number F2535. To begin our install well first go ahead and take the compressor and find a suitable mounting location. Because theres no room underneath the hood to install a compressor, we will go underneath the vehicle and on the inside of the frame, near the engine compartment is a good mounting location. Using the compressor as a template and our 3/16 drill bit we will go ahead and mark the frame. Once weve marked the frame well take the compressor out of the way and drill out or holes. Then using the hardware provider well go through the compressor attachment point, through the frame and secure it on the inside of the frame with an additional flat washer and nylon lock nut.

Once we have the hardware for all four attachment points in place well go ahead and tighten it down. Next well move inside the cab of the vehicle and find a suitable mounting location for our gauge and switches. Here on the drivers side located just beneath the kick panel near the console will be a great spot for our gauge setup. Now we where were going with the gauges, well go ahead and set it aside for installation later. Next well start routing our air lines.

Starting with the airbag lines well go ahead and cut a hole in the grommet large enough to allow for the four lines and one power wire. Once we have the hole in the grommet well go ahead and take the supplied air lines, start feeding them through the grommet and underneath the vehicle. Once we have our lines pulled underneath the vehicle well go ahead and start routing on the inside of the frame rail back until we get to the fuel tank where well need to route outside the frame rail and to our air line where the manual air fittings are located inside the fuel door compartment on the inner fender well of the drivers side. Next well need to remove the Schrader valve for the manual air fittings for the already existing airbags. To do this we will remove the cap, turn it over and twist out the Schrader valve inside the air inlet fitting.

Once we remove both Schrader valves this will release all the air inside the system. Once we have our line run to the preexisting lines we will then go ahead and find the drivers side, cut the preexisting line in half and install the tee. Once weve install the tee on the preexisting line we will install the line that we just ran from inside the cabin. Now that we have the drivers side line run well go ahead and repeat the same process for the passengers side. Next we will run a line that will go from our gauge setup to our compressor.

Well go ahead and run through the grommet, into the engine compartment and down to our compressor. This will be the supply line from our compressor. Quick tech tip: We will need to identify the driver and passenger side airbags and the one red line that we ran from the compressor that will go to our gauge so we will go ahead and tear off some tape, wrap it around the line, mark one for driver, one for passenger and one for compressor. Next well go ahead and install the check valve and inlet fitting. First well take the fitting and install it into the check valve. As we install the fitting into the check valve well make sure that we dont over tighten it. Now that our fitting is installed into the check valve, well go ahead and install the check valve into the compressor. To do this we will remove the rubber plug from the compressor, install the fitting and tighten it down. Now Im going to take our line, put it into the fitting, pressing it in firmly and pulling out to lock it in place. Next we will run the black air hose through the filter for our compressor. Starting inside the cabin we will go through the grommet into the engine compartment and down into the compressor. To attach the line to the compressor we will remove the plug and install the supplied fitting. Once we tighten it down we can then take our line firmly pressing it onto the barbed fitting. Now weve run the lines we will go ahead and secure them with zip ties as necessary. Next we will take the black wire from our compressor with the preattached ring terminal and this will be the ground for our compressor. Using a self tapping screw we can go ahead and secure it directly to the frame of the vehicle. Once weve secured it well go ahead and secure the wiring with the zip ties as necessary. Now well start installing our new wiring harness for the compressor assembly. Taking the orange wire from our harness we will run it down through the engine bay to the compressor. Here we can connect the two spade terminals and then well wrap them up with black electrical tape to help keep them free for dirt, dust and debris. Next we will need to run the white wire from our wiring harness inside the vehicle through the gauge assembly. To connect the white wire well use some black electrical tape and then pull the air tubing back into the cabin of the vehicle pulling the white wire with it. Once we have it in the cabin of the vehicle we can go ahead and remove the electrical tape and our pull wire. Next we will go ahead and mount the relay assembly. Routing it over to the inner fender well, next to the battery, we will use a self tapping screw and secure it to the inner fender well. Next we will go ahead and secure the power wire to the positive battery post. Then we will go ahead and loosen the stud on the positive battery terminal and note as this nut is not intended to come all the way off the stud we will go ahead and clip a small section of the ring terminal out so we can slide it over the stud and then resecure the nut securing the ring terminal. We will put the positive battery cover back over it and use one of the zip ties to secure the fuse holder directly here to the positive battery cable. Next we will go ahead and route the wire and roll the excess power wire securing it in front of the battery. Now with all our wires secured here under the hood we will go ahead and cut off the excess and zip ties to clean up the installed look. Next well move back to the cabin of the vehicle and start preparing the wires for our gauge assembly. Note: Where our gauge assembly will be sitting at the bottom of the kick panel we will mount it to the metal flange just underneath the kick panel. However, the metal flange does not run all the way to the console so were going to relocate the second attachment point. To do this well set our gauge assembly in place and mark a second location with a paint marker. Once weve marked it we will then go ahead and predrill its second attachment point. Now with the hole predrilled were ready to go ahead and start assembling the gauge wires. We have two black wires that go to the gauge light. One will be power and the other is ground. These are interchangeable. We will also have two sets of white wires going to butt connectors. These will be for the switches for the gauge assembly. Again these are interchangeable. My first step will be cutting off one of the butt connectors for the white wires. Well cut off the butt connectors, strip back the white wires, cut off the excess from the black wire and connect the three with a butt connector and run one single ground for our gauge assembly. This ground will work both the switches and light. Next we will add an extra length of wire for the power wire so that we can run it to the illumination circuit to the cab of the vehicle. Once again well strip it back, add it to a butt connector and the extra length of wire. Now that our gauge assembly has been prepped well go ahead and take the three red lines that we previously ran along with the white wire that we ran inside from the engine compartment and route them to where our gauge assembly will mount. Once we route them we can mark the length necessary to cut the wire and three lines. Next well go ahead and take the white wire we previously cut, strip it back and add it to the butt connector preassembled on our gauge assembly that runs to our switches. Once weve crimped the butt connector we can also use a heat gun to shrink the butt connector around the white wire. Next well prepare our air filter and fitting that will go on to our black line. Well take the fitting and hand tighten it onto the air filter being careful not to over tighten it and break the fitting of the filter. Once we have the fitting on we can move to the cabin of the vehicle. Go ahead and route the black line up underneath the dash and out of the way. Note: It may be necessary to cut off the excess of black line so we will go ahead and mark it and cut it with our tubing cutter. Now that weve got the line cut were ready to install it onto the barbed fitting of our air filter. Note: It may be necessary to go ahead and put the line into some hot water. This will assist in softening the line enough that it will fit over the end of the barb fitting for the air filter. Now once weve gotten the line onto the barb fitting we will go ahead and route it up into the dash and secure it with a zip tie. Now with that completed were ready to go ahead and start connected the red air lines to our switches and gauge. Once again well use the warm water to help soften the lines. All right now that our lines have softened up, well go ahead and start connecting them noting that we will make sure that the passenger side will go on the switch that closest to the console and/or passenger side. The drivers side will go to the one located nearest the drivers door and the compressor line will go into the one tee fitting located in the back of the gauge assembly. Now were ready to go ahead and mount the gauge assembly. Using the self tapping screws we will go directly into the metal trim underneath the dash. With the gauge assembly mounted we will go ahead and take the white ground wire and route it following our air lines back to the firewall. Here we will cut off the excess from the extra length of wire, strip it back and add a ring terminal. We will then secure the ring terminal to a good ground point on the firewall using a self tapping screw. Next as we route the power wire over towards the parking brake assembly well start securing the wires and lines together up underneath the dash. Quick tech tip: Recommend when routing any wires and lines to stay away from moving components such as steering or suspension or excessive heat such as the exhaust. So as we route the power wire back over towards the interior kick panel well secure the wiring as necessary. Now that weve got the wire routed back over towards the kick panel, well go ahead and leave it and remove the panel on the side of the dashboard here. This will allow us to get to the manufacturers wiring that runs to the headlight switch. We will locate the purple wire with a grey tracer which will illuminate our gauge assembly when the marker or dome lights are on. Now that weve located the necessary wire we will go ahead and route the power wire from our gauge assembly up to the wiring behind the headlight switch. To secure the two together well use a quick splice connector provided with our install kit. Well take the quick splice connector, feed it over the manufacturers wire and then slide the power wire inside the quick connector. Well go ahead and cut the excess off from the power wire and then crimp it down and close the clasp. Now we will go ahead and tuck the wire back inside and secure it with a zip tie as necessary and reinstall the dash panel. Next well go ahead and reinstall the Schrader valves and caps. Now were ready to test the new firestone level command with heavy duty compressor. First well go ahead and turn on the illumination light and light up our gauge. Then using the switches we will go ahead and air up the driver and passenger side airbags. Now with the bags aired up we can go ahead and check our gauge for leaks. That does it for the install of the firestone level command two dual gauge with heavy duty compressor part number F2219 in conjunction with the firestone vehicle suspension airbag system part number F2535 on our 2011 Ford Super Duty. .
