How to Install a Fifth Wheel Hitch on a 2003 Ford F-250

Today this 2003 Ford F250 were going to install part number RP50082-58. Before we start to install were going to get the truck ready. To make things really easier to see and do were going to remove these two wheels in the back axle and the spare tire as well. Now, were also going to loosen up the frame bracket for parking brake cable its on the driver side, theres one bolt well go ahead and remove it and get it out of our way. Now, well take the bracket and slide up in the cable towards in front. This will eventually be reinstalled on the frame bracket for the hitch.

Now, going to the bed of the truck, were going to measure from the edge of the bed off to the leading edge of the bedrail. Now as go by your manufacturers instructions for a distance in this case its going to be 32 and a quarter inches. Once we have our distance well make sure if its even from left to right. Good place to measure off this is well seem at the bottom of the bed. Once we have the bedrail in the correct spot well go ahead and mark and drill our holes.

Now this installation is going to use 2 holes at the very end of the rails. Were going to use a half inch bit to find our center in the hole and then well drill out 1/8 inch drill bit. Once we have our pilot holes drilled out well go back underneath the vehicle and hold our frame bracket off to the side of frame and make sure it matches up with the holes, everything looks like it lines up so go ahead and continue enlarging the holes in the bed of the truck up to 9/16. Now well go ahead and loosely installed the frame brackets, starting on our driver side well hold the frame bracket in position and install the hardware. Before we put our bracket in to place well loosely install the hardware and the bracket for the parking brake cable on to our frame bracket. And there were going to continue on installing it on to the frame. Our hardware is going to be the 5/8 bolt, a block, a lock washer, a nut.

Our 5/8 bolt will install from the outside to the inside in to the square hole through the frame and then towards the inside of the frame. Well install our block, lock washer, and nut. Now, were going to just get this finger tight for now just hold the frame brackets as close as we can to the frame but still be able to move it up and down. Now, well go ahead and install the U-bolts this will be going towards the frame ridge of the vehicle. Well take our U-bolt brought it from the inside to the outside.

Well make sure we dont clamp anything on the inside of the frame. In this case we have plenty of room that run our U-bolt through and then install concrete tooth washer and nut it will leave that lose as well. Now, we install our concrete tooth washer you also want to make sure of the teeth in the washer all is face and towards the hitch. Were done to the driver side well go ahead and repeat same process on the passenger side. Now well go ahead and back in the bed of the truck install a mounting rail. First you will install U-shape spacer as close as we can to the bolt hole in the bed of the truck. Now this will be on top of this next to it as close as we can. Then well put our mounting rail over the spacers and then install our 2-inch long carriage bolts. Well do this on both sides. Now will go back underneath the vehicle and then finish installing the rest of the hardware, on the bottom you see that the bolt goes through the frame bracket then well add a block with the round hole, a lock washer and then a nut. Now maybe a good idea an extra set of hand to something to pry up the frame bracket to keep it close to the bed as possible to make installation of the hardware easier. Now we got this hardware loosely installed for the frame bracket and the bed rails. Now is the good time to get the hitch that youre going to use and put it on to the rail thats in the bed. Then well use the hitch to position our second rail. With our hitch holding a second mounting rail on place make sure that the hitch is easy to remove and a square. Then well go ahead and mark and drill our holes one more time. And again this will use the hole on the outside the edge of the mounting rail. Same as the forward drill, our pilot hole check it, and then enlarge the holes to 9/16. And then well install our hardware as we did before. However, on the bolts closest to the cab there will be no frame bracket it will go straight to the bed but all 4 bolts will use the block, the lock washer, and nut. While our hardware loosely installed we can go ahead and start tightening it down. Well do it in this sequence. First of well tighten down the mounting rails to the frame brackets and then well torque them down as specified in the instructions.Second, well tighten down the frame brackets to the truck frame and then torque those down as well. While youre tightening it down and torqueing down the bolts its a good idea to double check the fit of the hitch to make sure with the pins it can be easily removed. If everything is torque down theres 2 more bolts that we have to install on a center holes on the mounting rails towards the inside well go ahead and drill those out with a inch bit and install hardware. Again well install 2 carriage bolts, theyre 2-inches long and underneath well get concrete tooth washer and a nut. Well tighten and torque down those bolts as well. And lastly well go ahead and tighten down the hardware for the parking brake cable bracket thats on the drivers side. All came with that that will finish it for our install part number RP50082-58 our 2003 Ford F250.
