How to Install the Extang EnCore Hard Folding Tonneau Cover on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, we're going to be installing the Extang Encore hard tonneau cover, part number EX62445. Now let's go ahead and go over a few features of the tonneau cover. You can go ahead and use this key to unlock the tonneau cover. You can go ahead and pull on either side of the rear panel at the cable and it'll unlatch both sides. With the rear panel unlatched, we'll go ahead and fold it up, then we'll continue to fold up the second panel until it's on top of the first panel. With the rear two panels folded up on top of the front, we can go ahead and use the latch mechanism that's attached to the tonneau cover to secure the panels together. Now with the tonneau cover secured in this position, you can head down the road if you want to.

It also gives you access to put in some larger items in the bed of your vehicle. We're going to begin here with our driver side side rail. You'll notice here on the underside, there is a label. It is marked driver side. Let's go ahead and take our side rail, set it up in place, come up here towards the cab, we're going to use one of the clamps here as a spacer. We want to slide the rail up so that we're about an inch back from the edge of the metal.

This will also help to make sure that your rails are positioned in the same location on both the driver and the passenger side. You'll notice that there's actually approximate plant location stickers put on the side rails. Now, depending on how the bed comes in, you may or may not be able to put it in that exact location. You may need to go forward just a little bit. So we'll go ahead and take our clamp, make sure we get it on the rail itself as well.

Now while pushing downward on the side rail as well as up on the clamp itself, go ahead and tighten down a little bit. Go ahead and repeat the same process up here at the forward location. Now for the third clamp location on each side, you're kind of limited here how the bed comes out, so we're going to go ahead and put it just behind where the bed comes out a little bit. We've got to loosen up our clamp a little bit, slide it up into position, and hold it. Now that we have the driver side rail on, go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passenger side. Next, we're going to go ahead and take one of our drain tubes, slide it onto the fitting here in front of the rail. Now, we've gone ahead and pulled this rubber cap out of our bed liner here.

Now this particular customer has asked us not to drill a hole through the actual bed of the vehicle, so we're actually just going to route the tube up underneath the bed liner, and the water will run out in-between the bed liner and the bed of the truck. So we'll go ahead and take our tube here, fit it down into there, and then you're going to need to go ahead and put a slit here to allow the rubber plug to go back into position. We'll actually be cutting like a small U-shape or V-shape out of it. It looks something like that. Go ahead then and repeat the same process over on the passenger side. Now it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you set your new cover in place. Go ahead and line up the two tabs with the pins here on our rail. We'll go ahead then and unclip the safety strap that's on the top of the tonneau cover, allowing the front panel to fold forward. Now that we have our tonneau cover set up here in place, we're going to go ahead and take this little yellow tether strap, clip it to this clip here on both sides. Now let's go over how you can adjust the rear latches. You'll notice how there's two Phillips head screws. If you loosen them up, they will slide side to side. You'll only need to adjust these if the white part of the latch is not fully engaging the rail. As you can see here, ours are working just fine, so we won't need to make any adjustments. Once the rear panel is closed down and secure, we can go ahead and close the tailgate. You'll be able to see an air gap between the underside of the tonneau cover and the top side of the bed. Now the kit does come with an extra piece of foam and some vehicles will require you to add this extra piece of foam depending on your exact set up. Since our vehicle has the gap there, we're going to go ahead and install the piece of foam on the top edge of the bed. We'll go up here to the locking mechanism that's located on the driver side front of the tonneau cover. We'll go ahead and insert the key that comes with the tonneau cover. We'll need to turn it three or four times about 90 degrees to set the internal portions of the lock to the key. Now that we've done that, we can go ahead and use this key to unlock the tonneau cover, and that's all there is to the installation of the Extang Encore hard tonneau cover, part number EX62445 on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab. .
