How to Install the Erickson Retractable Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps

Today on our utility trailer were going to be installing the Erickson retractable ratcheting tie down straps 1 inch by 9 foot with a 1,200 pound capacity, part number EM34417. These come two per kit. Now for our particular application we are not going to be using the bolt, the nut or the washer thats supplied with the kit. We actually had to get a little bit shorter bolts as to where we were choosing to mount them on our trailer. To begin with well go ahead and drill a hole in each of the frame rails on our trailer. With that done well put our bolt and washer through the bracket of the ratcheting tie down and through the trailer followed by our hex nut.

Well go ahead and tighten everything down. Well repeat this process for both sides. With the red button pushed in you can pull the strap all the way out. Well go ahead and pull the strap over the top of our cargo. Well go ahead and push the handle on the ratcheting strap all the way down and push the red button in again and it will retract the strap automatically.

With the slack removed from the strap well go ahead and take the handle and do the ratcheting motion a few times to help cinch the strap down completely. And with that that will conclude the installation of the Erickson retractable ratcheting tie down straps, part number EM34417 as used on our utility trailer.
