How to Install the Demco Excali-Bar II Tow Bar on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, you're going to be taking a look at, and I'm going to show you how to install the Demco Excalibar II Tow Bar. Part number DM9511009.This is what our tow bar looks like when it's installed. This is going to give us a sold mounting location or connection point between our RV and our towed vehicle, to safely tow our vehicle down the road while we're traveling. It's going to be one of five main components in a flat tow setup. The other four are going to be your base plate, your wiring, your braking system, and your safety cables. This tow bar is going to be a sturdy steel construction with a black powder coat finish to resist any rust or corrosion. It's going to fit a standard 2" by 2" hitch.

It's going to secure in place with the included pin and clip. It's going to have two pinholes to accommodate different hitch pinhole locations on the hitch itself. It's going to have a vertical pin design, which means each arm works independently. Once installed on the hitch each arm can support itself by simply locking it into place. The Excalibar is nonbinding, so it's going to allow you to unhook your vehicle easily, even on unlevel ground. The extendable arms lock into place when fully extended.

They're going to have a release lever to put the arms back in place when unhooked from the vehicle. Once you're hooked up and ready to go, you simply get in the RV, drive it, turn the wheel each way a few times. The arms will lock into place making this a self-aligning system. The hitch part or the receiver part will actually, if you remove this bolt, this nut and bolt, you can actually flip this over to give you the inch and a half drop along with this pivot point. On the arms, the arms will pivot. The safety cable, we're going to have a vinyl coating, they're going to stay on the tow bar, so that's one less thing you're going to have to worry about misplacing.

The tow bar is going to have guides to keep the cable from dragging on the ground. It's going to have very large safety hooks with spring loaded latches to reduce any risks of accidental disconnects. It's going to have a rod here on this side. What that's for, if you notice, our wiring kind of hangs down low. If you hit a bump or you hit a dip, this is going to hit the ground or possibly hit the ground. This rod is for your wiring.

You simple put the coils on the rod. It's going to come with a pin to hold it in place. That's going to keep it up off the ground.Unlike some of the other tow bars out there, this one is going to allow you to store it on the back of the RV in three different positions. You can go one out, to each side. You can go both on one side or both on the other side. Unlike some of the other base plates out there, they're going to come with removable arms. With this base plate, these arms or these tabs, again, they are going to attach to the tow bar itself and they're going to always stay with the tow bar, so again, that's one less thing you're going to have to worry about losing or misplacing. Attaching these is very simple. You simply slide them in, you have two pinholes, you turn them, line them up with the pinholes on the base plate. It's going to come with a pin and clip that secures it in place. The Demco Excalibar II is also going to have a 10,500 weight capacity. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let me show you how to get this installed. You simply slide a 2" receiver into the receiver tube, line up the hitch pinholes and install your included pin and clip and lock it into place. Now I find it very easy when the arms are locked in the opposite sides. It's easy to lift and put into place. Once you have it secured to the hitch, you're simply going to lift an arm, pivot it inward. You're going to slide it into the base plate. Line up the pinholes to the pinholes in the base plate and slide your pin and clip in. That's going to secure it in place on that side. Now we're going to repeat the same thing on the other side.Next, we're going to take our safety cables and lock them onto our base plate. You're going to notice it kind of comes to a V right here in the center, what we want to do is we want to take the one from our driver's side, hook it up on the passenger side of our RV. The one from our passenger side of our vehicle, we're going to hook it up on the driver's side of our RV. At this point you're going to want to hook up any wiring that you have and any other safety cables. That'll do it for a look at an installation on the Demco Excalibar II tow bar, part number DM9511009 on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
