How to Install the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter on a 2017 Ram 3500

Today on our 2017 Ram 3500 we're going to be taking a look at the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for a RAM OEM 5th wheel towing prep packages. Part number DM6099. Here's where our base rails look like installed in our truck. As you can see, they're going to utilize our factory mounting points into the under-bed installation kit that was provided from the factory. This kit is going to allow you to tow using a 5th wheel trailer hitch that mounts to above-bed rails. It's made of a steel construction and it has a black powder coat finish so it's going to resist corrosion and rust.

There's no drilling or welding required to get it installed. It's going to use all our factory mounting points. Let's go show you how we get it installed. Now to determine if this package is going to work with your vehicle, you need to figure out if have the factory tow package or not. The way you find out is if you look in the bed, we're going to have five holes with pucks in them and the pucks are removable. That's how you know if you have the prep package or not.

This one does so we're going to go ahead and begin the installation. To begin our installation, we're going to have to remove our pucks out of the holes in our bed. We just come up and we can twist them and they'll unlock. If you're having a little bit of trouble popping them out, you take a flathead screwdriver, get it right around the edge, it'll help it'll come out a little bit. We're going to repeat this for all the pucks in our truck bed. Our next step is going to be taking our base rail plates.

We need to pay attention to the sticker right here making sure that it is facing towards the cab. We're just going to place it right over our four holes in our bed just getting it loosely lined up. With our base rails loosely in place, we're going to find our latches right here. Now we need to pay attention because the gold piece right here on the bottom, these are going to be going in the back. I'm just going to take a little bit of white lithium grease, spray it on my mount here. I'm going to slide it into the rear puck hole.

You may need to unlock it. You just pull this pin and rotate our handle. Then we have it in place, the locking pin right here should be towards the outside. With this rear one loosely in place and lined up, we're going to take our 3/8 bolts and we're going to loosely install them just by hand for right now. Now the front's going to install the same but we need to make sure that we grab the latch that has the silver tab on the bottom. We're going to repeat the same process for any other remaining latches that we have left. With all of our hardware loosely in place, we're going to com back and snug everything down. I'm going to be using a 9/16 socket to do that. Now I do want to mention before we start snugging everything down, we need to have all of our latches in the locked position. We're going to go ahead and repeat the same process snugging down all our hardware. Now with all of our hardware snugged down, I'm going to come back and I'm going to torque them down to the specified amount on the instructions, again using a 9/16 socket. We're going to repeat that same process for all our remaining hardware. Now all we have left to do is put our latch pins into place and lock everything down. That'll finish up the look at the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapters for RAM OEM 5th wheel towing packages. Part number DM6099 on our '17 RAM 3500.
