How to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2014 Nissan Frontier

Today, on our 2014 Nissan Frontier, we're going to install the Curt Venturer Brake Controller with Direct-fit Wiring Harness, Part #C51110 and C51382. Here's what our brake controller will look like once it's installed. If we hit the pedal or the manual sweep on the brake controller, you can see it lights up, and we have power to our brake controller. Then we can go ahead and plug in our trailer. You can see as power increases to the trailer braking, the bar goes up on our display. We can do that with the foot pedal or the manual slide. Here, on the top of the brake controller, is a slide switch that will allow you to increase or decrease the power going to your trailer braking.

Here, on the side of our brake controller, is the sync button. You can slide the sync button forward or back to increase the time it takes to go to max power that is set on the top slide for your gain. With the sync moved all the way back, closest to the front of our brake controller and our gain up about three quarters of the way, we press on the foot pedal, we can watch the power slowly increase to the max output as set by the gain. Now, with our sync switch moved all the way towards the front of the vehicle or the back of our brake controller and our gain in the same position, we'll press on the foot pedal and watch as the display goes up much faster, increasing the aggressiveness of full power going from our brake controller to our trailer braking. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install the brake controller. To begin our install, we first need to locate the manufacturer's brake controller wiring harness port or connector. This is going to be underneath the dash on the driver's side, above the gas pedal.

Once we've located the manufacturer's port, as you can see, it's a white connector. It's taped to the harness. We'll bring in our Curt brake controller wiring harness with matching connector that will direct fit or direct connect to the manufacturer's wiring harness. Once we plug the two in line, the other end will fit directly onto the brake controller pigtail. Now let's go ahead and set our harness aside, as we need to mount the brake controller. To mount the brake controller, we'll use the bracket and hardware provided.

We're going to go here, to the bottom of the dash where it's out of the way but yet still accessible to the driver. Now, once we've secured the bracket, we can use the remaining screws to attach the brake controller to it. Now we can take the pigtail and wiring harness, and plug the two together. Now, once we've finished securing our wiring harness, we'll cut off the excess of those zip ties. That will complete the install of the Curt Venturer Brake Controller, Part #C51110, and Direct-fit Wiring Harness, Part #C51382, for our 2014 Nissan Frontier. .
