Today on our 2008 Dodge Nitro well be test fitting the Curt 24 inch by 60 inch folding cargo carrier for two inch hitches, part number C18132. To mount our carrier to the vehicle well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up our hitch pin holes and secure the carrier with a standard five-eighths inch pin and clip. Now well go over a hand full of clearance measurements with the cargo carrier folded up. Weve got about 14 inches of ground clearance and two and a half inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle when folded up. Weve added about 14 inches of overall length to the rear of the vehicle.
Next we want to tilt our carrier down. Well remove the pin at the base of the carrier so we can tilt it down and lay it flat. Well then resecure that same pin. With the carrier folded down flat well go over a handful more clearance measurements. Weve got about 20 inches of ground clearance at the rear of the carrier, and about eight inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle when folded down flat.
Overall weve added about 40 inches of length to the rear of our vehicle with the carrier flat. The carrier is far away enough that heat transfer shouldnt be a problem from the exhaust. The cargo door breaks over our carrier at about the 22 inch mark. Thats it for our test fit of the Curt 24 inch by 60 inch folding cargo carrier, part number C18132 on our 2008 Dodge Nitro.
