Today on our 2008 Dodge Nitro we'll be test fitting the Curt 20 inch by 60 inch folding aluminum cargo carrier, part number C18100. To mount our carrier we'll insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of our hitch. We'll line up our hitch pin holes and secure the carrier with a pin and clip. Next we'll go over a handful of clearance measurements. We've got about 12 1/2 inches of ground clearance and about 3 1/2 inches of clearance between the closest part of the bumper and the closest part of the carrier. Overall when folded up we've added about 11 inches of length to the rear of the vehicle.
Now we'll tilt the cargo carrier down flat. We'll remove the pin at the base and allow the tray to rotate down until it's flat then we'll reinsert our pin and secure it with a clip. Then we'll go over a handful of more clearance measurements. When folded down we've got about 15 inches of clearance at the rear of the carrier. We've got about 10 inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle.
Overall we've added about 30 inches of length to the vehicle with the carrier folded down. We've got about 16 inches of space between our tail pipe and the closest part of the carrier. There might be some heat transfer so keep this in mind when loading the carrier. Our cargo door breaks over our carrier at about the 22 inch mark. That 's it for our test fit of the Curt 20 inch by 60 inch folding aluminum cargo carrier, part number C18100, on our 2008 Dodge Nitro..
