Review of the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2008 Dodge Nitro


Today on our 2008 Dodge Nitro well be test fitting the Curt 20 inch by 48 inch cargo carrier for one and a quarter and two inch hitches, part number C18145. To mount our carrier to the vehicle well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up our hitch pin holes, thread in out anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. Next well go over a hand full of clearance measurements. Weve got about 14 inches of ground clearance at the rear of the cargo carrier. Weve got about five inches of clearance between the closest part of our bumper and the closest part of our carrier.

Overall weve added about 25 inches of length to the rear of the vehicle. Weve got about 12 inches of clearance from our exhaust pipe to the closest part of our carrier. Keep this in mind when loading, as heat transfer may be an issue. The cargo door breaks over our carrier at about the 9 inch mark.
