Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, we're going to be installing the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set, part # 900B. Now In order to install this Convert-A-Ball system on this particular ball mount, we're going to need to use a Hitch Ball Bushing that goes from an 1 1/4 inch opening down to a 1 inch because our ball mount has a 1 1/4 inch opening on it, and the shank on our Convert-A-Ball is only a 1 inch, so we'll be using the Hitch Ball Bushing 1 1/4 inch to 1 inch, part # F-2. We'll begin by first sliding our bushing over the shank of our ball. With that into position, we can slide it through the hole in a ball mount. With that into position like that, we'll slide our lock washer on, followed by our hex nut. We'll then go ahead and take our impact gun and tighten down the nut. Now when tightening down the nut, it's helpful if you take a large Phillips head screwdriver and slide it through the hole and the ball shank. This will help it from spinning.
You may still need to use a pipe wrench to help secure the ball mount portion as you're tightening down the tightening down the knot the rest of the way. Now with the nut tightened down, we'll go ahead and take our counter pin and slide it into position. Take a pair of pliers and bend each side back a little so that the nut can't back off. Now that that's done, we'll go ahead and flip our ball mount to the normal position. We'll then reinstall our pin and clip. To do that, we'll simply line up the holes, put our clip back into position.
To actually use the Convert-A-Ball, it has a locking pin here that slides back and forth, and that's actually what secures the ball to the ball shank here. There's a hole in the ball shank that you'll line up with the pin, slide it back into position, and it'll lock it into place. We'll go ahead and put the 2 5/16 ball on for now. Line up our hole, and then push it all the way through, and the ball's locked into position. When you want to take it off, simply take a screwdriver, something to push the pin out a little bit, and you can change the ball out.
In addition to the 2 5/16 ball, you get a 1 7/8 inch, as well as the 2 inch. That'll do it for our installation of the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set, part # 900B, on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. .
