How to Install the CIPA Clip-on Towing Mirror on a 2019 Ford F-150

Rob: Rob here at erailer.com. And today we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA universal clip-on towing mirror on our 2019 Ford F150. Now if you've been towing a trailer with your F150, and you're going down the highway, you might get into that situation where you really can't see what you need to in your factory mirror. You need to change lanes, make a turn, or back up your trailer. And our towing mirrors are going to give us that extended field view so we can feel more confident when we're getting down the road, or changing lanes on the highway. So here I am at the back of my trailer. Now you can clearly see me in the factory mirror, but if I we're to step away, you're going to lose track of me.

But by the way we have our towing mirror set up, we're not going to have any blind spots. It's just going to be a continuous path of what you're going to see. And now you can see me all the way in what would be the next lane. So we're going down the highway. We can have a lot more confidence when we change lanes, prevent us from having to stick our head out the window, and just make it a lot easier to park our trailer later on when we have our towing mirrors in place. So we're going to have a really wide area of space that we can see what's going on behind us.

And we're also going to have full adjustability of our towing mirror. Being able to adjust it left, right, up, or down, diagonally, however we need to get that perfect viewing angle. And the way the mirror's going to attach is we're going to have two rubber straps. They're going to wrap around the backside of our mirror. And since they're rubber they're going to hold really nicely, and not cause our mirror to shake or move around.

But also it's going to prevent any kind of scratches or abrasions on our factory mirror. Now I know we've all been in those situations where we park our truck somewhere and we need a little bit of extra space, so we want to fold our mirrors in. Well, with our towing mirror installed, we still can fold them in. You just need to be mindful that we're not going to be able to fold them all the way in. Currently, we have our window down, and we can fold our mirror in, but you can see that it is actually going to come into where the glass would be. So if you have your window up, you're not going to be able to fully fold it in before it makes contact. And you can see on our mirror here, we're not going to be blocking our factory turn signal.

It's still going to be visible and we're still going to be able to use it. But on the bottom of our mirror, if you have puddle lamps, just keep in mind, depending on how you have your straps ran, it may interfere with that puddle lamp. One of my favorite things about our mirrors is the universal design. If you have more than one vehicle in your family that you tow with, chances are this is going to fit that as well. But they're extremely easy to install and they do come as a single mirror and as a set. So they're going to install the same on both sides. And they're so easy to install in fact, let's go and do the other side together. To begin our installation we want to open up the arms on our mirror. And then what I like to do since our Ford factory mirror is so tall, I like to extend the straps out to the longest they can be. We can always tighten them up later if they're too loose, but it makes it a lot easier to get everything in place if everything is fully extended and loose. So we'll just feed the strap through, extend it as far as it'll go. And then if we bring our attention to the arms themselves, we're going to have four tabs. These tabs are going to fit in between the mirror housing and the mirror glass. So just want to line these up on the bottom and the top and slide it in place. So once you have everything loosely in place, you kind of want to just hold it with your hand and then we're going to grab one of the straps and bring it around the backside of the mirror. And we'll have a little square hole, we're going to hook that to the top section up here. And once we have that first one hooked up, bring the other one around. Make any kind of adjustments we need. Then we can make any kind of adjustments, moving the arms, sliding into the position we want, and tightening up the straps. And that's all there is to it. So we're ready to make all of our adjustments for our mirrors, hook up to our trailer, and hit the road. But again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com. And that'll finish up your look at the CIPA universal towing mirror on our 2019 Ford F150.
