How to Install the CIPA Clip-on Towing Mirror on a 2015 Subaru Forester

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Subaru Forester, we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA universal clip-on towing mirror, part number 7070. It's also available in a set using part number 7070-2. So here I am at the back of my trailer. Now, you can clearly see me in the factory mirror, but if I step away, you're going to lose track of me. That's where our towing mirror's going to come into play. It's going to give us a much wider field of view, make it easier to go down the highway, change lanes, or even pull up at the camp grounds 'cause we're going to be able to see what's going on around our trailer and be able to make those maneuvers safely.

So here's what our mirror's going to look like once we have it installed. It's going to use these four attachment tabs to snug up against the mirror, as well as two rubber straps. But as you can see on the top, it isn't going to be as snug against the mirror housing. And that's going to be pretty common because it is a universal towing mirror. Now, although the top arm isn't making contact on the inside of our mirror, these two rubber straps are going to hold it firmly in place. And not only are they going to hold it firmly in place, but it's also going to prevent any kind of scratches or abrasions since they're a nice soft rubber against our paint.

Now, the mirror's going to have a ball on the back of it which is going to allow us to have a full 360-degree rotation to get that perfect angle going down the road as well as rotating it to the side for a more wide-angle view. Now, even though our mirror is going to attach to our factory mirror, we're still going to have full access to movement to our mirror so we can set it however we need to. And the blind spot monitor's not going to be affected by our towing mirror either. In those tight situations or parking spots, we still can fold our mirror in, but just keep in mind that it is going to come in contact with the door here before we get it fully folded in. So if you do need to fold your mirror all the way in, it may be a good idea to go ahead and take the towing mirror off. Now, one of the great things about our mirror is that it is universal.

So if you have several different vehicles that you tow with in your family, chances are it might fit those as well. The mirror does come in a quantity of one, so if you need it on the passenger side, you can install it the same way or order the set. And as you can see, our mirror's going to fit perfectly over on the passenger side as well. You just want to flip that mirror over so it's facing the right direction. So now that we've seen what our mirror looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how easy it is to get installed. To begin our installation, we're going to open up the arms on our mirror.

And you'll notice that these tabs here that come down from the arms, these small tabs are going to go in between the mirror housing and the mirror glass. So we're just going to take our mirror and take those small tabs. I'm going to set the two on the bottom, kind of hold the mirror in place, and then move the arms until the top ones line up in the spot that they need to. Now we're going to take the rubber strap, and we're going to reach around the back of the mirror. If you need a little bit of adjustment, you can either lengthen or shorten the strap by just feeding some of it through. We're going to wrap it around the top of the mirror, that little square hole. It's going to hook on to the tab on the other side of the mirror. We'll do that for the other one as well. You just want to make sure your straps are nice and snug. That way it has a firm grip around the mirror. And again, to either lengthen or shorten them, you just want to push some of the strap through and adjust it to the appropriate length. Then we can just make adjustments to the mirror itself. Then we can hit the road. And that'll finish up your look at the CIPA universal clip-on towing mirror, part number 7070 on our 2015 Subaru Forester.
