How to Install the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors on a 2017 Toyota Sequoia

Hey, everybody, how's it goin' Today we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the CIPA custom fit towing mirrors here on our 2017 Toyota Sequoia. So, for starters, in regards to fit, these are only gonna fit the SR5 models, but thankfully that's the most common trim level, so it's gonna fit the majority of Sequoias out there. Unfortunately for you Platinum and Limited owners these are gonna be not a fit. You'll have to look at other options, such as the universal ones. So here's what our towing mirrors look like installed. Now, right away you're gonna notice it's the same material as the factory side mirror molding, so it's gonna provide us with the best overall factory-like appearance.

Now these are actually custom fit towing mirrors and custom fit towing mirrors are gonna be the best option out there but they're not available for every vehicle. The reason custom fit towing mirrors are gonna be the best ones is 'cause they're gonna provide the tightest fit on the factory side mirrors. Having the tightest fit is gonna cut down on distortion and vibrations, giving us the best view possible. Now, there are other options here for the Sequoia, such as universal fit options. Universal fit options will fit pretty much any vehicle, and they're still a good option for the Sequoia, but they don't quite get the tight fit like the custom fit ones do.

And those are gonna in turn distort your vibrations or distort the vision on your mirror. So you're not gonna get the clearest picture of your trailer. So one thing that I think CIPA does really well is they're really taking full advantages of all the surface area. You can see the mirror face pretty much fills this entire gap between the factory mirror. This is gonna give us the best possible view of our trailer.

Now, the actual mirror is a flat plane. It's not convex or concave and it's on a ball and socket joint, so you can easily adjust each outside edge to your liking. I like to push on the outsides there, so you're not smudging up the mirror face. So to really hammer home the benefits that you're gonna get from these towing mirrors, you can see I'm just standing directly beside the trailer and that's no problem for our factory mirrors. But if I we're to step out a couple feet here you're gonna lose focus from the factory mirror, but now I come into picture in our aftermarket towing mirror.

So one of the more common situations I like to bring up how this is gonna be beneficial to you guys is that when you're towing out on the highway there and you need to merge lanes, those cars are more often than not becoming by us at a much higher rate of speed than us 'cause we're towing. So it's really kind of hard to see and predict where they're gonna be, and it makes it a lot harder to change lanes to get over if you need to hit your exit. So having that extra visibility there, it's gonna make you guys feel much more confident behind the wheel of your vehicle, towing your rig, keeping you and your family safe. You can certainly leave these towing mirrors on while you're not towing. They're gonna sit on the vehicle fine, nice and secure, so you don't have to worry about any of that. But when you're done towing, if you do wanna take 'em off, it's very easy to do that. As you'll see here, they're easy to get on and off. There are a couple more steps than some of your other options but overall I think the end result is worth it. These are a great towing mirror option to keep you and your family safe and allow you to feel more comfortable behind the wheel of your vehicle. So the first step of our installation, it's a good idea to go ahead and clean off the factory painted mirror surface. Now, there is gonna be some protection built into these mirrors. There's a little foam pad there, so you shouldn't have to worry about any scratching or scuffing, but it's still a good idea to make sure your factory mirror surface is nice and clean. Here is our little mirror insert and here is our protective little liner. So they want us to go ahead and install these on the inside. So you'll peel back the backing there and just sort of stick it on there like so, and this is gonna provide protection of our painted mirror surfaces. So now we're working over here on the passenger side first; therefore, we're gonna be grabbing the mirror assembly here that's labeled RH for right-hand side. They're printed right in there. Now once we've done that, on the backside we're gonna begin threading in our hand knob here. So just go ahead and thread in a couple turns to get it started. And then we're gonna take our mirror insert here. You can see there's a little circular portion. That's actually gonna line up with the back of the threaded stop there, so I'm gonna line that up as best as I can now, just eyeballing it. And then I'm gonna take the assembly and I'm gonna slide it over the factory mirrors. You'll see how it can kind of hook around the outside here. Now, once I've done that, I'm gonna hold it in place and I'm gonna begin tightening down our thumb screw. This is gonna draw everything together and allow our mirror to stay on the vehicle. So I've got the thumb knob tightened all the way down. I'm gonna go ahead and just grab our mirrors here. Give them a little tug to make sure they're not gonna fall off and you can see they're on there nice and tight there. It's a very snug fit. We got this side installed here; that was pretty easy. Now we're just gonna jump over to the other side, do that exact same thing over there. And once we're done that's gonna do it today for our look at installation of the CIPA custom fit towing mirrors here on our 2017 Toyota Sequoia..
