How to Install the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors on a 2008 Ford F-150

Today on our 2008 Ford F-150, we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA custom towing mirror. Part number is CM11800. That's going to be for both the driver's side and the passenger side. If you would like just the driver side, part number is 11801. Just the passenger side is 11802. Now, we're outside. I'm about, maybe, 15 feet behind the back corner of the truck, just to give you an idea of the field of view difference that you can expect out of our towing mirrors.

You can see, now, as I step out to the side, you see me in the factory mirror fine. Right in this area is where you're going to start to lose me in that, and then you're going to pick me right up in that towing mirror. This is where our trailer will be as we're making those corners and coming around. While we're still positioned in our seat comfortably looking forward, we're going to be able to see exactly where those tires are, make sure we're clearing items that might be obstacles in our way, and things like that. It's a really nice addition, gaining, maybe, another 6, 7, 8 feet out here, where we'll be able to see exactly what's going on behind us. As you can see, our custom towing mirrors are going to be a great addition.

These are going to allow us a wider field of view. You'll see the nice large mirror that we've added on, here. This is going to allow us to extend that field of view out so we can see a lot more behind us. It's really important for trailering, things like that. This is going to prevent us having to stick our head out the window, or trying to wrench around and try to twist our neck around enough to see.

This is extended out so whether we're trying to negotiate around, maybe, a camp site to get into the right spot, or whether we're just traveling down the highway or through town trying to turn, change lanes, or pass, this is really going to make life easier for us. The custom-fit will come right around our factory mirror. We're going to keep full operation of the factory mirror which you can see, tilt in, out, up, and down. No issues there. You'll also see they've got the cut-outs, here, so if you're truck's equipped with the blinkers that are in the mirror, those are still going to remain visible, so not losing any safety aspect. We're just making trailer hauling a little bit easier.

These offer a really nice snug fit, as you can see. They're not going to wiggle around. They're not going vibrate. You get a good, firm, hold. This is a completely tool free installations, so we don't have to carry around a wrench or anything like that. We're going to retain the full function where we can still fold our mirrors in. If we didn't want to take them off for, maybe, parking in the garage, or maybe a tight area, we pull into a parking lot, we can get them tilted in there, and it'll actually be narrower than what just our factory mirrors are. The finish is going to be a very, very, close match to the finish that's already on our Ford mirror. You can see it's going to come right up along with our contours. Again, giving us that nice custom-fit application. You see the custom mirror is going to go right in line with our factory mirror. That's going to help reduce any wind noise or any vibrations that we might experience. Now our mirror face is going to be fully adjustable, up, down, left, and right. We can get a great customized view, look at exactly what we want to see. Measures 4 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall. You can see it's actually roughly half the size of our factory mirror, so we're really getting a lot of mirror surface, there, to help us see what's going on with our trailer. It's going to be a scratch resistant mirror face, so it's going to look good for a long time. The same with the AVS plastic housing, here. Designed to resist UV rays, so if you don't want to put them on and off, you can leave them on there. Not going to have to worry about any fading or any kind of cracking. We talked about the tool-free installation. We've got just three components that we're going to be using. We've got our set screw. You can see that's going to thread right in the back of the mirror, there. Comes out right there. Then we've got our spacer. This is going to slide right in here. The little hole in the back is going to line up with the set screw when we have it in the correct location. We're just going to bring our mirror up. We'll bring my spacer up. You can see how that fits exactly with the contour of the mirror. Gives us a great hold. Slide that in. Then we'll just turn our set screw, and you feel it come to . It just kind of firms up a little bit. That indicates we've got it right where we want it. That's really all there is to it. We're ready to head down the road. Of course, when you place this on, you'll want to ensure that you've got a clean mirror surface, and on that spacer block they do recommend a little foam piece of tape that fits on there. It comes with two, since these mirrors are designed to fit a wide variety of vehicles. Comes with two different spacers, so just decide which spacer is going to be the right one for you. Then we can put that piece of tape on there, and that's just going to protect the surface of the mirror for you. That's going to complete our look at the CIPA custom towing mirrors for both the driver's side and passenger side. Part number CM11800. On our 2008 Ford F-150.
