Today on our 2017 Ram 1500 we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA Slip-on Custom Towing Mirrors. These are for both the driver and passenger side. Part number of CM11400. Now if you need just the driver's side, that part number is going to be CM11401, and for just the passenger side, the part number is CM11402. Now here's a good look at the field of view difference that we can expect with our towing mirrors verus our factory mirror. You'll notice as I step out of way from the trailer here, which I'm about 15, 16 feet behind the truck.
You'll see how I'll get to about this area, and you've been able to see me in that factory mirror fine, but when we get in those bigger turns in the camp sides 00:00:43 and we're trying to change lanes, it's nice with that towing mirror that we can really help to extend that out here several more feet. That way we won't have to kind of turn around as much to see exactly where the trailer and tires are as we head down the road. As you can see, our customer towing mirror here from CIPA's going to slide right on. Got this space wedge here in the back. It's going to hold it in place for us. It's going to provide us with a fully adjustable mirror face here, which is scratch resistant.
This is going to help us to expand our field of view while we're towing. That's going to make passing, changing lanes, navigating campgrounds, and things like that a whole lot easier. We won't have to kind of lean forward and try to look through our window or really crank our neck around to be able to see what's going on behind us. Now the mirror, in and out, offers a very secure fit. The mirror doesn't really move unless the truck does. However, if we we're to push up and down, you do see there is a little bit of movement there.
That could be negated if you wanted to add a pad to the top or something like that, but we did notice that with our snap-on style of towing mirror, it was a much more snug fit. You just want to keep that in mind. As you can see, we're going to retain the breakaway function of our mirror. We're going to retain the mirror adjustment. There is a slight overhang of the lower lip and also of the upper lip over our mirror, so it will sightly obstruct the view, but it's going to be very, very minimal. We've got durable ABS plastic construction.
Looks very, very similar in finish to the factory. Now you'll also see, it's going to follow right along with the lines of our factory mirror. That's going to help to maintain the aerodynamics of our vehicle. It's going to help to eliminate any vibration or any wind noise that we might experience. You'll see the set screw, that's going to screw right into the wedge, which we'll show you here in just a second, which is going to provide a completely tool-free installation for our mirrors. Here's a good look at the mirror we're going to be installing our towing mirror on. You'll notice this has the matte finish. When you're dealing with a matte finish mirror, we want to use the thicker of the space blocks that come with the kit. If it has the painted cover, or a chrome cover, then you want to use the thinner one. Once you've determined which one's going to be right for you, we've got a small foam pad here. You just want to get that applied to it, after you remove that backing cover. Now we're ready to slide our mirror right over our factory mirror. Make sure it goes in there firmly, and then our wedge. You see there's a small circle on the back of that That's where our set screw's going to fit in. Slide it in firmly. Make sure our mirror's all the way in, and then simply tighten up that set screw. As you tighten it up, you'll feel that wedge kind of pull in a little bit. That's really all there is to it. Nice and secure. Of course like we talked about, you do have a little bit of up and down movement there. Overall it's going to be a very quick and easy way to extend our field of view and help out with those towing needs. That's going to complete our look at the CIPA Custom Slip-on Towing Mirrors for the driver and passenger side. Part number CM11400, on our 2017 Ram 1500.
