How to Install the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System on a 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty


Shane: Hey guys, Shane here with the etrailer.com. Today, I have a 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty. I'm going to be installing Air Lift's WirelessOne air compressor system. Having a wireless system is going to allow you to monitor the air pressure in your bags from the comfort of your vehicle. It's going to come with a wireless remote. It is going to have power and ground that has to run to the manifold, but the controller is going to be wireless.

We're not going to have to run anything inside the vehicle to any gauges. We're not to run airlines inside. It's going to make it a lot easier to connect this wireless system than some of the other ones out there. A wireless controllers are going to be very easy to use. You simply push the button to wake it up.

We're going to have presets where we can set to whatever number we want. You want to make sure you always have at least five PSI in your bags. But if we use the up and down arrows, this is how we're going to increase our air pressure. This is how we decrease it.Our presets; let's say we haul a fifth wheel all the time. We know what our air pressure needs to be at when we're hauling it.

We can set our air pressure at a certain amount. All you do is hit the two dots and it'll automatically air your bags up to whatever that preset is. When you're done, you're unloaded the fifth wheel, you don't need that air pressure anymore, you hit your one that you had your minimum air pressure set at it. It'll automatically decrease your bags to that minimum setting. Having the wireless controller in the cab of your truck means you're not going to have to get out of the vehicle, find a air hose and manually air up your bags.

Because this is wireless, not only can we do it from inside the vehicle, but we can do it from standing outside of the vehicle also. Another nice thing about it, it's going to come with a clip that you can easily stick it up on your visor similar to a garage door opener.Another added benefit to this system is you can pair it with a cell phone. So if you're out somewhere, your controllers battery goes dead, you have it paired to your cell phone, you can use your cell phone to inflate and deflate your bags as needed. The nice thing about having the app is right up here at this line, it's going to show you our current pressure as it's airing the bags up. So we're going to do this again. We're up to 25. I'm going to watch this line here. One thing to keep in mind is that this setup is going to be single path. So it's going to allow you to arrow two bags at one time, as opposed to individually airing them up. One thing I do recommend is leaving a line running to the back of the vehicle so that you can manually inflate your bags if for some reason your battery goes dead on your controller, maybe your cell phone battery goes dead, or the compressor itself for some reason stops working. If you like the option of being able to air up your bag separately, there are compressors available that are dual path. You can find those here at Etrailer.This is what our manifold and our air compressors are going to look like when it's installed. Air compressor is what's going to give you the air pressure through your manifold to air up your bags. Your manifold is going to give you the wired connection to activate your air compressor. Durable plastic housing, so they're going to hold up in all weather conditions. You just want to make sure when you install them, you stay within six inches away from any heat or anything like that from like your exhaust. Overall, I really like this compressor. I like not having to run all the wires inside the vehicle, have to mount gauges on the dash. It makes it a very simple, straightforward installation. Now we'll be going over some of the features. Let's walk through how to get it installed.To start our installation, we need to mount our manifold and our compressor. Make sure when you're mounting your manifold that the wiring is not pointing down, and then it's not upside down. I'm going to mount mine right here on my frame rail. I'm going to mount my compressor right here. Make sure wherever you mount your manifold, the compressor is within 32 inches. Your kit's going to come with some self-tapping screws. This frame is pretty thick. So what I'm going to do, I'm going to hold this up here and use one of the screws to mark where my holes are going to be. And then I'm going to come back and drill a small hole so that my bolts are going a little bit easier. To drill your hole, you want to make sure that your bit is much smaller than the self-tapper that you're putting in. So bolts or Allen heads, you're going to use a five 30 seconds. Now, we're going to Mount our compressor. You want to make sure that your air fitting is facing your manifold. Go ahead. It's going to come with self tappers.Typically, what we do is we take our ground wire, we run it right underneath of this screw, this last screw that we're going to be putting in. However, with this being a Ford and being an aluminum bed, what I'm going to do is I'm actually going to put it into this frame rail right here for the support rail. Keep in mind if you're doing it this way and not putting it on the bolts that come with it, it is going to require another self tapping screw. You're actually going to use the same method here as you did when you mounted your solenoid drill hole first. Whatever size self-tapper you're using, just make sure that the drill bit is smaller than the self tapper. You're going to get airline tube in your kit. What we're going to do is the very top port up here next to your plug, we're going to run a line from here right into your compressor. I'm make sure and try not to have any big bends or anything like that in your line. inaudible 00:06:17 I'm going to push this on that far.Try and get it all the way up. You would just at least want to make sure it goes over the two barbs that are on that fitting. You want to make sure when you cut your line, that it's cut flat. It doesn't have any angles in it and it's not kinked anywhere. Next thing we need to do is we need to get our two airbags tied together, and get a line ran up to our manifold. What I did, since we mounted our manifold and our compressor on the driver's side, I took my fastener side line, ran it across over top of my spare tire holder, right over the frame rail, right to where I have my airbag on my driver's side run. The kit's going to come with teas, two of them. One, we're going to fit it in line. And then our passenger side will connect into it. That'll attach our two bags.And then the other one is going to fit here and we'll run a line from here up to the manifold. That end si connected into my T, came outside the frame rail all the way up to here. I went behind my body mount, right to my factory wiring right here, came up here. Since I mounted my manifold right here, I went over top the frame rail and hooked it right into this side port. I did leave a little bit of extra just in case maybe one end is leaking a little bit it'll give us a little bit extra that we can cut the end off then reattach it. We're going to have four wires coming off our plug. We're going to have a short red one coming directly off the plug. Then you're going to have three longer ones; a black, a pink and a red. If you're going to be connecting to an ignition source so that your compressor will kick on as soon as you turn on the ignition, you need to attach the pink wire to that ignition source. You want to make sure it is fused.If not, we won't use the pink wire. We're just going to run the black and red wire up to the negative and positive side of the battery. The short red wire that's coming off our plug side, we're going to cut this end off our compressor wire and we're just going to attach those together with the included heat-treat buck connector. Push it on till it clicks. And the red tab, you want to make sure you lock it into place. I'm going to take these three, run them over top of my frame rail because we have factory wiring that runs on top of our frame rail all the way up to the engine compartment. So now with my airline tube, I'll take my three wires, I'm going to tape them to the end. We can go up top and pull our wires up.With my wires pulled up, I'm going to go ahead and run a zip tie around some factory wiring back here just to make sure it doesn't fall back down underneath the vehicle. And then we can start getting our wires set up to be connected to our battery. Since I'm not using the pink wire, I'm only going to be using the red and black, I'm going to cut my red and black down to size to fit onto my battery. My pink wire, I'm not going to cut down. I'm going to take it and roll it up and I'll zip-tie it back here in this area just in case later on, they want to attach it to it and this ensures they'll have plenty of wire to either run it over to a fuse or inside the vehicle. For our positive, we're going to have a fuse holder, make sure the fuse is in it. We're going to cut it in half, strip back both ends. You're going to add the other heat shrink butt connector onto one end, take your red wire, connect it to the other end of the butt connector, crimp it down.We're going to put it on a larger ring terminal. For our ground wire, we're going to have another ring terminal. We're going to take this one and double it over. It is a little bit thinner. Let's hook that. Got our negative hooked up. For a positive side, you can see we don't have a second stud. So what we're going to do is we're going to loosen this. We're going to cut this ring terminal, a little spot out of it. We'll slide it underneath the nut and get it on the stud and then we can tighten the nut back down. I'm going to take my extra wire here, I'm going to zip-tie it right to this wire that runs underneath just to kind of keep it where it's not hanging down. It's tucked up out of the way. Once you get your fuse in, you're going to connect to the battery, take your controller, and you're going to push any one of the buttons to wake it up.If it comes up like this, that means it's already set. That's your lowest setting at five PSI. If it doesn't come up with a number, it's going to come up with a series of numbers on it, you're going to choose those numbers. So that's for the serial number on your manifold. You're going to choose that. And it's going to come up and say, pairing. Once it says pairing, he was going to let it go for a minute or two, and it was automatically going to turn to this screen. If for some reason that doesn't come up, what you do is you pull your fuse out, let it sit for five seconds, re-install your fuse, and then go through that process again. Now what we're going to do is we're going to air our bags up to about 70 PSI, and then we're going to check all of our fittings if there are any air leaks.I'm going to take some soapy water once you have air in your bags and we're going to spray anywhere where we had connector lines into fittings. We're looking for big bubbles or a bunch of real small ones that are building up. Once you've checked all your fittings, you don't have any air leaks, go ahead and reinstall your spare tire and you're ready to go. That's going to do it for a look at and installation on the WirelessOne air compressor on our 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty.
